Thanks. What did he mean about having it collected or waiting til the new car arrives please?

Im a bit concerned about the length of time for delivery now. If it exceeds 4 months I assume you have to then apply again for the government money.

Well he just meant that if we wanted it taken out of our hands, they can collect it whenever..doesn't really bother them.

Not sure about the re-applying after 4 months though

Michael Jackson has cancelled his UK tour after he discovered £2000 for a ten year old actually refers to the car scrappage scheme.

That's so wrong. I'm going to write that one down :rotfl:

Have any of the other dealers other than Kia put their prices up since they've noticed the increase in demand?

    * Even the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) made a major error last month when it said in writing that cars for scrapping need to be taxed (they don't), insured (they don't) and have a vaild MoT (not necessarily).

Taken from the Telegraph website (sorry not allowed to post links yet).

Well, I dont think anyone knows the absolute definites. They have withdrawn the SORN compliance which is a pain. I spoke to the VW dealer and said I didnt believe they needed tax disc but he was adamanant (and apologetic) that they had all had a group meeting with directives that a tax disc was required. I have heard that other dealers including Ford are asking for a tax disc aswell.

You can appreciate the thinking behind it. The idea is that cars are taken OFF the road, not out of someones back garden where they have sat rotting for ten years or something. That must be a very tiny minority of the scrappage claims Id have thought. But yes, I can see that they require cars able to be on the road legally to be taken off the road otherwise the exercise is pointless.

Going to have to ring the dealer I ordered from when they open. If I move sharpish I can still buy tax disc (MOT runs out on 3rd June) to cover myself. Will be a pain but is still worth it for new i20.

Still dont know if we need it or not mintster - but give them a ring to see what they say. I dont want to make any silly mistakes and not get the scrappage deal through.

I feel a little bit sorry for the dealers in that I think nobody really knows how the scheme is suppose to be run not even the people who are responsible for administrating it !!

Perhaps everybody should write to their MP and state that the rules are not clear, they should fully understand..
