Thanks for that, where is that info from??0

Except the official site, which strangely makes no mention of road tax..

Little wonder there is soo much confusion.
Quite agree. I thought we were safe with the SORN. Luckily the car is still MOTd for another month and insured so I could whip down to the post office to tax it yesterday. I scanned and sent the tax disc and other docs to the dealer. Ive left them a mail asking whether I can now claim back the other 5 months of the disc I had to buy
I know there were some articles in the newspapers saying SORN was a bad loophole in the scheme. Whether the government has reacted to that sharpish...............0 -

You will also find that some of the car manufacturers are now saying a tax disc is required on their sites. Im hoping its just for when you make the order, as the MOT cert appears to be.
Fords site: Even this seems to have been knocked up without thought - see the repeated mot info
The vehicle you are trading in must:- Be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kilograms (kg)
- Have been first registered in the UK on or before 31 August 1999
- Either have a current tax disc, or have a current tax disc and a current Hackney Carriage Licence, or an MOT certificate which expired no earlier than 14 days before the date of the contract between the Purchaser and the Dealer for the acquisition of title to the vehicle by the Purchaser
- Have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
- Have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C) in the same name as the new vehicle
- Have a current MOT test certificate before date of order for the new vehicle

Thanks, I do hope that you get the full 5 months refunded, it all seems so silly to have to tax a car that is being scrapped.0 -

That is a commercial site, so that is not the official line, seems strange that the official site makes no mention of Road Tax, I think that everybody is getting totally confused over what is required to be honest.0 -
Exactly and then going over the top to cover their ****** - Im sure the dealer said to me, sorry it will only cost you one months tax though (which I guess means he just needs to see its current at time of order). B******* they are closed this weekend. Ill ring on Tuesday to see if I can now rush back down the post office and send off for 4 months back. But then - dont I have to declare SORN again if I do? Oh hells bells.0

Thanks to bellrooster and bagboy for your pm's - I will get onto that today!
Thanks, Hethmar, it was the right site, but I just misread your post. But heartening to hear that VW took the credit card!
The Fox is not £35 road tax, I think, so is out of the picture (emissions of 144 and 159 for the 1.2 and the 1.4), as there is such a gap between £35 and £120 (which I suspect will grow in time). Although if it comes with the parking thing....
Re the dealer who said no i10s on scrappage, as I walked out he did try to sell me the i20, but again it's above £35 and as someone who used to sell for a living, I was wondering how he was making his! Almost wanted to get in there and teach him what to do. How could he let someone with a chequebook in hand walk out without at least asking them what they are looking for in a car - obviously not going hungry! I did try to help him by asking what the great features of the more expensive car were, and he just said it's bigger - so £1000 more just for a bigger car.
Thanks, so much everyone. I have to say I am finding this both exciting and difficult. Am just glad I'm off work and have got the migraine tablets to hand!

Not read it all yet but it might explain things a bit clearer0 -

It would appear that someone at the BERR said a little too much to the media and the SORN loophole has now been closed.
This is a blow to motorists looking to trade-in off-road vehicles and also to dealer’s attempting to generate sales and stay in business. unquote
Only in this country could something so simple be cocked up, little men in grey suits medling again eh0
