I cant find anything about it for definite - it doesnt even mention a tax disc on the government pages - and it says the MOT must be valid at the time of order (not delivery) of the vehicle.
Why on earth dont they have the facts anywhere available.0 -
Has anybody else with an upcoming MOT being let down with a dealers quoted delivery dates after paying a deposit. Like i bloody was today!0
-
john, as I read it the MOT must be valid at the time of order, not delivery. Has your dealer said different?0

Scrappage - The Latest News
Slight Hiccup
A bit of a staggering start as confusion over how to do the paperwork has led to some manufacturers putting the scheme on hold for a couple of days, but things seem to be moving along again now.
Dealers told they have to organise scrappage
As part of the deal the supplying dealership now need to have control of the scrappage side of things rather than letting the customer do it themselves. The new car ordered must have actually arrived at the dealership before the old car is scrapped. The dealer may take the car in or also arrange for a company such as CarTakeBack to collect and scrap the car.
Government Scrappage Scheme Criteria
Your vehicle
The vehicle you are trading in must:
1/ be a car (or small van weighing up to 3,500 kilograms)
2/ be first registered in the United Kingdom (UK) on or before 31 August 1999 (ie. up to 'T' reg)
3/ be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in your name
4/ have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
5/ have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C)
6/ the name and address on the V5 must exactly match those to be registered with the new vehicle
7/ have a current MOT test certificate or one that expired no more than 14 days before date of order for the new vehicle
8/ have a valid road tax disc at the time of order
9/ the dealer must see a copy of the V5 at the time of order
NOTE: before the vehicle is taken for scrapping make sure you take these photocopies - 3 copies of page 2 of the V5 document, 1 copy of your MOT certificate, 1 copy of your road tax disc. Make sure all copies are very clear and readable.
The new vehicle
The new vehicle you want to buy must be:
1/ a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kg
2/ first registered in the UK on or after 18th May 2009
3/ declared new at first registration in the UK
Common question we get asked is whether SORN vehicles with no MOT will qualify, or previously written off by insurance cars - our current understanding is that you will need to have the vehicle given an official VIC examination to prove it's roadworthiness.0 -
Just a silly point here, but I have just noticed that on the V5 form, two letters have been transposed in one of my husbands first names. Will this be a problem re verification? I know common sense should prevail, but ..........0

Thanks for replies! Just letting off steam! 2 weeks ago i put £200 down on phone with Taggarts in central Scotland for a Hyundai i10 1.2classic. These were 5th dealer we called as the rest were quoting Aug/Sept delivery date. I told the guy this and also mentioned i was pleasantly surprised as my MOT runs out 20th June. Guy said this was no problem. The more i read online the more sceptical i became and i phoned him twice again(last time on wed) and he said everything was ok. I again expressed my concerns but he said no worries. Today the wife texts me at work to say he has left message and guess what?-Aug/Sept delivery. Hethmar-i was told by another dealer that it wasn't on order date but on delivery to dealership. My problem is,probably like a lot of people that we NEED the car,and can't run in early to scrap early even if it is an option. Plus there's the hassle of the MOT(i think the head gasket may be on it's way)0

dont know if this will happen yet but later in the year, if a garage registers a car to get its sales figures after 18th May does it still qualify even though its not a "new" car?2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,0 -
picking up my new i10 tomorrow :j.
I was lucky I found a dealer with stock, I'm happy to drive 30 miles to get the car, rather than wait 2-3 months for delivery, that 6 other dealers quoted me.

dealers can no longer cash in the tax discs, so this makes no odds to them
But under the terms of the scrappage scheme you to havea valid tax disc on the car you trade in
Flea[/QUOTE
Have scrapped a car under the scheme and collected new Hyundai i10 yesterday. Old car had tax on it til end of August 09. Drove it to the dealer, the dealer took a photocopy of the tax disc for the records, then told us to take the tax disc and get a refund...which we were jolly happy with!0
