But most people have a waiting time of 2 or 3 months, rather than a few days Bronnie. Had your dealer seen the tax disc at time of order? Or was that the first time he saw you had one?

Those of us in a waiting situation need to get this clarified. Its ridiculous that this hasnt been made clear cut for everyone.

Ah John, I see what you mean - you were banking on the early delivery to save putting it through the MOT again as you need it to use. Im in a different situation as we have two cars - one is the scrappage one (my OHs) and mine is 8 years old and going in as a part exchange. We will then have just the one car between us.

dont know if this will happen yet but later in the year, if a garage registers a car to get its sales figures after 18th May does it still qualify even though its not a "new" car?

No, I dont think it would, as it states you must be the first registered owner.

I have sucommed to the scrappage scheme! I ordered a Hyundai I10 comfort on Thursday! But it's going to take 8 weeks to get it! which is an absolute killer as I'm so excited!!!

My car ran out of MOT on the 12th may, but they still said it was fine and ordered me my car with the documents I had.

But because of the long wait I'm having to MOT my old car anyway as I can't be off the road for 2 months.

We should start a 'how long till YOUR I10 arrives thread...'

Oh sorry, have been dipping in and out of this thread since the start and obviously missed some points.

Dealer never mentioned anything about tax until , he phoned up a week last Thursday, presumably when Govt paperwork had come through and asked for all the ref numbers from Reg. Doc and MOT and I think he asked then if it was taxed, but they knew we had it on the road up to the time of scrappage.

Hi bellrooster - I tried to order the i10 today and the dealer said that I couldn't do it on the scrappage scheme, and if I wanted one not on the scheme, I would have to wait till September (which anyway doesn't follow the scrappage rules which is 3 months, I think). Would you mind letting me know the dealership you used (I did e-mail Hyundai today, but doubtless won't hear till some time next week).

If you prefer to pm me for privacy, that's fine.

Hope you don't mind helping - it just seems to be the most outstanding cheap car possible.

    Thanks
    Jen

picking up my new i10 tomorrow :j.
I was lucky I found a dealer with stock, I'm happy to drive 30 miles to get the car, rather than wait 2-3 months for delivery, that 6 other dealers quoted me.
    BB

Would you also let me know which dealership, please, bagboy - per my above post? I'm having trouble finding a dealer that will do the Hyundai i10 on scrappage, and says no stock till September anyway.

    Thanks

Jennifer, why dont you try a broker? I used carfile and Jonathan there was wonderful - saved me another £1900 on my VW when local VW dealers were all saying cant deduct anything from list price if I wanted scrappage.

Scrappage rule is 4 months for delivery from date of order.

Thanks, Hethmar, as always you've come to my aid. Will (nervously) try them.

Do they just put you through to the nearest dealer with stock?

How was the money side of things handled, please?

    Thanks

Id never had considered it til someone on here recommended me to. I had a day of googling about the particular broker and they have been going 30 years and I found lots of people saying how good they were.

I just went to their site, sent them a mail or you can phone them (they will be off to Tuesday now though). Jonathan who is the owners son then contacted me saying that he had put my enquiry to their VW dealership contact. They phoned me asking my particular wants/needs and quoted me a price for the car, a price for part exchanged and I then accepted. It was pain free.

I then scanned them my tax disc, MOT and V5 paperwork. They asked for £200 deposit on a credit card and they will be putting the order through and sorting the scrappage for me. They said they will deliver to the door free (they are over 100 miles away) and take away both the old cars - the scrap one (my husbands) and my 8 year old skoda which they have bought off me. I thought their offer for it was a bit low (about £200 less than Id hoped for) but he did point out that it was unseen and also as my car wouldnt be delivered to beginning of September, then it will have more mileage and be that bit older. Fairs fair really as I wouldnt want the horror of trying to sell it privately and people asking why the boot only opens when a back door is open :)

It is totally safe Jennifer. You dont pay the balance until you have received and inspected the car.

The thing is, by using the broker the dealerships get a guaranteed large amount of sales per year so they can discount to each purchaser. They pay the broker 1% of the sale apparently. You pay nothing to the broker. I was pleased as locally VW have totally refused to take even a penny off their list price if you use scrappage.

Of course, if there really are NO 110i coming in then they will be in the same position. But its worth trying them, isnt it. Mind you .............if they can offer you another small car at the samish price because they are also discounting on top of scrappage - it may be worth you asking what else they could suggest? Kia Picanto or something?
