Car Scrappage Scheme

I ask the question as after reading the thread from DrScotsman Rear ended settlement too good to be true, I just wondered if the insurance companies had already picked up on this.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0

If you had already ordered a new car, then even if its written off should make no difference. Just tell insurance you dont want it fixed or reimbursed, there is no mention of the car having to be driveable, just that it needs to be MOT, taxed and owned for at least one year. When the car is recovered get it delivered to car dealer.0

Does anyone know the situation re MOT and tax disc please? The MOT on our scrappage car runs out in a month and I had to go and tax the car today because the dealer needed to see a valid tax disc, MOT and V5 form for it. The thing is, once you have placed the order and the docs have been seen by the dealer - does that mean you are ok re the MOT running out and can I now claim back the 5 months on the tax disc I had to buy (Id put the car on SORN)? The car we have ordered has a 10 -12 week wait.0

Dealer might be funny on the tax, its one of the little things they like to do to get a bit more money from the deal.0

But the fact it must have an MOT is surely to prove it is roadworthy - wont they expect that?0 -

dealers can no longer cash in the tax discs, so this makes no odds to them
But under the terms of the scrappage scheme you to havea valid tax disc on the car you trade in

No the dealer was apologetic that I had to spend the money to get the disc. Im just wondering about the regs of the scrappage deal - whether you just need the MOT and Tax disc on the day you order and after that it doesnt matter?Basically Id like to reclaim the 5 months cost.
Oh, and re the broker talk above, I was offered zilch discount on the VW we are getting (the local dealer was quite shocked that we asked for it on top of the scrappage), I went to a broker recommended on here and have got another £1900 off the list price in addition to the £2k scrappage. And they deliver the car free and take away the old one.0 -

The car traded-in cannot be an insurance write-off. Once dvla are notified of this by the insurance company, then the deal would be off

the scheme is a abit confusing on this point. Most info given by the government says it has to have a valid MOT and tax disc at time of order, but most manufacturers are saying they still have to have these on the day of delivery.
I think its because the information coming through from the government is so wishy washy, dealers dont want to find out last minute that it definitely needs tax/mot on collection, so they are just playing safe, incase they have interpreted the rules wrongly

Where could you get definitive information, do you think. I guess DVLA wont know, Im not sure where you go for the info.0
