Car Scrappage Scheme

Check my last post about the updates on the direct.gov website releating to tax. Seems to be clear cut now.0

Can I just ask, did you order from Taggarts, and what sort of timescale did they quote you? I'm finding it hard even to place an order at full price down south - I don't think the dealers can be bothered with the low profit margins!
It's giving me a real headache.0 -

It doesn't appear to have changed, it has always said that ( as far as I am aware ).
The confusion is caused by reports from potential buyers and DealDrivers saying that dealers are insisting on the road tax being part of the deal, when it clearly is not.0 -

(I don't work in the car industry or support Gordon Brown/Alistair Darling...I just think it's shortsighted to moan about it because it's "UK taxpayer money" blah blah when it's far more complex than most people know)0 -

Actually the direct.gov website didn't mention road tax - only MOT, also didn't have link for scrappage e-mail address. I think the only reason dealers are asking for road tax is to make it easier for them, my dealer isn't bothered about it.0 -
@bhavinshah Just think what the scrappage budget could have otherwise be used for: For example a scheme to subsidise employers while they keep people on short time instead of making then redundant (as just announced in Germany, scheme to last 2 years). I feel that the benefit of scrappage to UK PLC will be slight and short-lived.
Everyone on this forum seems to be focussing on Kia, Hyundai, Fiat and VW.
Perhaps because of the unenthusiastic deals being offered by Vauxhall, Nissan and Honda all who have serious manufacturing in the UK.0 -

Wouldn't mind reading about the German scheme a little more if you have a link?
Anyway, I agree it may not create the huge recovery everyone is hoping for. My point is simply that it's shortsighted to say "uk taxpayer money is going abroad and therefore the scrappage scheme is a waste of money"0 -
I thought I should post something on the forum, as I know a lot of people have been discussing the various merits of buying a cheap Picanto on the scrappage scheme...
I visited the Aldershot dealership on Tuesday (and can confirm that, basically, they have withdrawn the Chill and re-released it as the MY10, exactly the same model but £400 dearer - but that's another story), and ever since walking away from an 11% APR + £300 arrangement finance deal (telling them I had enough in savings, could get a better personal loan, or just get a better car that offers 0%!) I have been getting spam text messages from loansupermarket and loans4tenants up to 10 times a day ---
You guessed it, I gave the dealer my mobile number when arranging a test drive; seeing as this is the only time I have given it out and the timing/content seems beyond coincidental, I thought I should warn anyone else against doing the same thing!
Now I'm tempted to wait until this scrappage debacle is done and dusted so car buyers can start haggling properly again!0 -
Rio Chill still available according to the Kia website - (just a quick scan says it is available until 31/05/09).0

I was just about to place an order for a Mazda today using the scrappage scheme, then dealer told me they need the old car a few days before receiving the new car, so they can scrap it, get certificate of destruction, before they can register and release the new car. So would be without a car for approx 3 - 5 working days.
Has anyone else encoutered this issue with a Mazda dealer. I called Mazda HQ, but they can't answer the issue and say it is up to the dealer.0
