Got my car yesterday. It took a while and I'm never buying a new car again :p It had to go back into the workshop to get a brake fluid line replaced so I was sitting for nearly 2 hours whilst that got done. Luckily I had a book with me and I consoled myself with the knowledge that it's the only time I'd get to sit and read.

My ancient polo drove like a dream all the way into Aberdeen and I was feeling quite guilty about scrapping it. Well, I was until I couldn't get it into reverse and had to switch off the engine to locate it  It was the reminder I needed that the car [STRIKE]is[/STRIKE] was really falling to bits

The new car (Fiat grande punto 1.6 sporting if anyone is interested ;)) is fabulous to drive. It really puts a grin on my face but I have to watch my speed as I no longer have the extra warning of the car shaking when I'm going over 70 mph :rotfl: Twice yesterday I shocked myself and had to slow down quickly :o Luckily I now have brakes that work instantly - that was a shock too ;):D

Jansus, what happened with your insurance in the end? Or shouldn't I ask :p;):D
  • The reason I ask is that I have read that it may run out soon and I have ordered a new car which will be at the dealers by mid October. My scrappage car has a reg number I am putting on a retention certificate. I started the process yesterday at my local DVLA office, they told me the process takes 3 weeks and not to let the dealer apply for scrappage until I have my new log book as the reg number would be lost if they did.

Wife's Huyundai I10 Comfort was collected last Thursday. She is extremely pleased with it (her first ever new car) which makes me very happy. Looks like we made a good choice.

This is it, I can imagine me still not knowing all the mod cons on the new Golf until a couple of years time. But I know it has cruise control as my sister said its very handy when you are on motorways. I still cant believe it has that automatic parking thing that the salesman showed us. Will I have the nerve to take my hands off the wheel and let it park itself  To be honest, I keep thinking the car is too good for me.

OH just phoned about ours. Apparently its arrived and off the ship and waiting to be collected and delivered to the main dealers. The girl reckoned we should get it delivered to us next week and our scrap car and the part exchanged collected at the same time.

glad you have had some encouraging news hethmar not long now, cheeky congrats on the new car and driving all that way, glitzkiss i ended up taking my car early to the dealers so as not to run out of insurance, i rang up the company the following day and asked to speak to a supervisor i just got a a basic apology and we will speak to the advisor, but to be honest i couldn't be bothered pursuing it, if i wasn't up to my neck in collecting a new car and all the things that go with it i would have argued my point more anyway they were in no doubt that i wasn't impressed with their service and would not recommend them to anyone in the future, i have given them my business for ten years but not anymore

You wont believe this, but a guy knocked on the door this afternoon and asked if the BMW convertible (our scrappage car) is for sale - weve put it on our drive. I told him only if he would pay over £2k. He nearly cried when I told him it was going to be scrapped next week - its a Bauer edition, only 10k made. But, well, no one will pay us over the scrappage amount will they and it would cost more than that to get it up to scratch again.

    Oh well.

You lucky thing getting a Golf. I would have loved one but it was way past my price range. As for the parking assist thing - I'm with you on the idea of letting a car park itself :eek::eek:

    Thanks for the congrats.

Did you tell Direct Line you had named and shamed them on MSE? It might have made them feel worse :D

But I understand where you're coming from about not pursuing it. Sometimes you have to concentrate on the important things
  • I love my new Seat Ibiza 1.4 SC Sport.

It's nice to have a non overheating cabin, radio and trip computer that works, door that will open from the inside and non banging windscreen wippers.

Also nice to be getting 45mpg on combined!

    Money well spent IMHO.
