  • This may have been covered before but a quick Q. I have a 12 year old car. It was first registered in Northern Ireland (still part of the UK last time of checking) in 1997, new. I moved to England six years ago, bringing car with me. Re-registered it in England. Some companies (Toyota for example) have refused to accept it, saying it is imported!! Has anyone else had problems with NI cars that comply to scrappage criteria but are being refused? I know a bit of a niche Q this but would be interested if anyone else is having issues.

Ive still not heard about mine :( Im feeling very nervous, even about ringing to enquire as its a long way away and they are supposed to be delivering it and taking the scrap car plus my old Fabia in part exchange. Scared anything will go wrong with the deal now  Also worried about having a brand new car for the first time.

i know what you mean hethmar i was convinced right up untill the last minuite that it would all go belly up hence feeling nervous all day, my dealer was telling me that when they sell a car it takes two months for the goverment to pay their part to the dealer he said at one point they were owed 250,000. and it got so bad that they were considering holding cars back untill some money came through he said it wasn't that they couldn't get the cars it was waiting for payment that was the problem

  • Just a quick, note to say I'm home safe and sound with a shiny new Toyota Yaris and love it.

I've given it a good run - ok almost 500 miles for the drive home but love it already.

Only problem is they seem to have sneaked a 6th gear in since I test drove one. I read the brochures saying it had 6 gears, but erm I thought it was 5 plus reverse. Nope it's 6 plus reverse!

The mondeo I scrapped drove down effortlessly passing many a newer car broken down at the side. This did not help on the part exchange.

Right off to bed now, 900+ mile drive in just over 24 hours is not recommended when your not used to it. I'm gubbed!
