Well "hethmar" the accommodation has been booked. I'm staying at "The Stag" if that makes any sense to you. Apparently it's not too far from the dealer and the travelodge which I was considering is 12 miles in the opposite direction to my dealer.

Oh, right, I remember, you are picking up the car in the next town down from me

Hmm - you would have been better off in the town pubs/hotels I mentioned, but if you are settled now.

Hope it all goes well for you.:T

I did look at the accommodation you recommended and erm liked them all. It was the salesman who said that the Stag was closer and as I'm hoping to run on the wiff of petrol, or as close to as I can, that's the only reason I've chosen it.

If I like the area, I might even be back for a few more days as I've never been up / down that end of the country before and really wish I could've got more time off work, but computer says no to extra days holiday which I'm gutted about.

The Stag is £49.95 per room per night, plus £4.95 per person for B&B so it's not too bad price wise and the same as the ones you recommended.

I was supposed to be borrowing a sat nav but the person who I was borrowing it from at work never dropped it off last night and I'm planning on leaving tomorrow at 8am. Do I trust the AA, RAC or garage route finder which all take you different ways? Or just go out and buy a Sat Nav (not very MSE but could encourage me to broaden my horizons though, Oh the dilemas. I never took all this into consideration when getting a new car.

I'm still really excited about the drive down. Ooohhhh I've just looked out of my living room window and there is a strange car (not a local one) parked two doors down and it's a silver Yaris. I'm going to have one of them in red in two days.........

(Is it wierd that I think I'm really going to miss my Mondeo (Montgomery) and kinda feel guilty about scrapping him now?).

    Hi

Can someone confirm something for me please. If you have ordered a car through the scrappage scheme but have not picked it up is your scrappage allocation guaranteed? If there is a sudden run would this affect those who are having to wait a a month or so for their cars?

I have the paper work for my new car here and it states government scrappage and manufacturer scrappage contribution on it however due to my own laziness it may be a month before I can legally pick up the car (see thread here)

Several dealers have told me that the numbers applying for the scheme have picked up in the last month and whilst I know they may have been trying to pressure me into making a snap decision I'm a little worried that I may miss out. Can someone reassure me please :o I've never bought a new car before and everything is worrying me

I've posted a reply on your other thread which might help.

As soon as it is ordered it is ringfenced.

I ordered mine in May and pick it up on 1/9/09!

Im surprised that the local pub was that much, the Hill House is usually only about £30.

The Stag is ok but its like a motel, so you arent near the town for a mooch or anything, but just off a busy main London road in open country really.

I feel so much better you writing the above as it describes my feelings exactly. I have had the Mondeo now for just over 6 years and got it after writing off a Volvo 460 sxi (read rocket on wheels) and it took me a long time to get used to the Mondeo after that.

I found myself apologising to my car today and feel really guilty. I really am going to miss it.

I wonder just how many perfectly good cars are going to an early car grave?

far too many, even when driving past my local bmw dealer they have a mint white g reg 318 sitting with all the scrappage stickers all over it,im not a big bmw fan but that breaks my heart, same with the ford dealer they have a nice escort sitting up on stilts with the scrappage decals, again it looks too tidy to scrap.
unfortunatly the local vauxhall dealer has a rusting old faded red corsa half sticking out a skip, looking very sorry indeed. says it all i think!
