OH is broken hearted - BMW Bauer convertible cabriolet, white with navy blue hood - 320i - had it 20 years, few of them made - but who is going to pay him more than £2k for it? Needs new seat covers and new hood - more than the car is worth0

I'm scrapping a P-reg Citroen AX which was my first car (got it when I was 18). Thanks to the scrappage scheme I'm getting back roughly what I paid for it 7 years ago - zero depreciation!0

can't believe this has just happened rang my insurance company to inform them i am scrapping my car tomorrow and could they give me a quote for the new car, i had already done research on price comparisons and had an on line quote from my own insurance company, anyway the price she quoted bore no resemblance to the quote on line so i decided to cancel my policy with them and go elsewhere ...right she said that's done i said what's done she said i have cancelled your policy i said from when she said now, to say i am annoyed is an understatement i said i told you i was scrapping it tomorrow and now i have no insurance despite having to do a full day's work which i need the car for and driving to the dealers in it , she then went away for ten minutes and came back with your insured till 12 tomorrow my appointment is at four o'clock at the dealers I'm fizzing, my boss is going to be happy with me when i tell her i can't do my job after 12, and how do i now get it to to dealersITV comp winner no 410

Name and shame them. Tharts madness. Ring up again and ask to speak to a supervisor and point out that a large number of people on Martin Lewis' web site is waiting to hear the outcome. They cant cancel your policy just like that without your say so.0

I wonder just how many perfectly good cars are going to an early car grave?
rather rare in breakers yards. A lot of them were better than the cheap stuff that's turning up at auction at the moment.

it is direct line been with them ten years she told me after the incident that if you cancel then it is immediate you can't cancel today for tomorrow when i asked her why she didn't tell me to call back tomorrow then, she said you said you wanted to cancel talk about incompetent as i said i started with the words i am scrapping my car tomorrow why would i cancel insurance today
Well I hope you give them a good rollicking.
Direct Line insurance is rubbish anyway. You can get it cheaper and better elsewhere. I think Ill use More Than for my new car - and if you go through quidco to them, you get £60 cash back.0 -

As we're having this discussion on older cars, I'll be keeping my Pug Estate 405 diesel on a P reg. I did look at scrappage and am sure that it's been a real boon to many. However, my Pug still does 50 to the gallon and, like most cars of its era, was well rust-proofed so it's totally solid. Equally, the 405 remains a superb ride. The only downside I can see is that I won't have the level of safety offered by newer vehicles. On the plus side, I'll effectively have the equivalent of £6k ish to keep it running if I remain out of the scrappage scheme.
So, that's my pennyworth.0
