Car Scrappage Scheme

Right, my daughter has this week ordered a new car under the scrappage scheme. She fits all the neccessary criteria. What we would like some help with is this: her MOT runs out middle of September, insurance runs out end of July and her tax runs out end of August. She is now very nervous that something will happen to her old car between now and when her new one arrives which is approximately first week of October.
The dealership has said they have no problem with her dropping it off at their place at anytime before the new one comes but it is at her own risk if it is not insured and if anything happens to it they will not be liable (which is fair enough). She is willing to do without a car for a while and use the bus and also saw it as a chance to save on a couple of months insurance payments (she is 18 so not cheap) etc.
She is quite willing to let the tax and MOT expire and cancel the insurance and keep it safely locked up on our drive for a while or even just re-tax it for 6 months if need be, but then how will she stand for getting rid of it when the new one arrives? Will they accept it with no current insurance, MOT and possibly no tax? If so, how do we get it there?
Any advice gratefully received!
Thanks
I'm in a similar position, my car wont be ready til the middle of September but my tax, insurance and MOT all run out at the end of August.
As far as i'm aware you need all of these things present when taking delivery of your new car.
I have already got my car re-MOT'd which cost around £130 and that means i can now get my car taxed when it expires at the end of August, the VW dealer said they give you your old the tax disc back when they take your old car.
As for insurance, i'll proabably just renew my existing car and then transfer it to the new one when i pick it up.
I doubt they will accept you car without an MOT and tax disc not to mention getting it there with no insurance.
You can take that risk if you like, or accept the fact that you'll have to suck it up and do it the right way.

The dealer I spoke to today, said that these documents are needed at the time of the order, He would need photocpies of the tax disc and V5 (Reg Doc), this ring fences the £2000.0 -
If you read the earlier postings, you will see that the tax, insurance and MOT is only required at the time of the order. You can give the dealer copies of these at the time of order.
In our case the MOT ran out in June - a month after the order, we have SORNED the vehicle now (and reclaimed the remaining tax) until the delivery of the new car 1 September. Our arrangment is for the dealer to deliver the new car and remove the scrappage one. I understand in some cases arrangements can be made by the dealer for a local authorised scrap firm to take your car and provide the paperwork to the dealer.
This information was confirmed by the scrappage team (see some pages above) and is also confirmed on the website.0 -

Your VW dealer has got it wrong. Visit the scrappage team page and copy the details to give him. He is costing you money if he says you need these items at the time of the new car delivery.
Here is the reply to my email concerning the documentation required:Thank you very much for your query. Can you please note the following:-
the old car must have a current MOT test certificate, or one that has expired no more than 14 days before the order for a new vehicle is place
-
the 14 days also applies to tax
-
the old car must be insured at the time the new car is ordered
Once you have ordered your car, you should SORN your vehicle if it is going to be more than 14 days between the expiry of the MOT and the delivery of the new vehicle. Once you make a SORN you must keep your vehicle off the public road as you will be committing an offence if it is used or parked on the public road. You will need to make arrangements with the dealer for your old car to be picked up once the new one is delivered.Kind regardsMarylyn GaskinVehicle Scrappage TeamDirectgov website: Scrappage SchemeBERR website: Vehicle Scrappage Scheme0 -

I'd also quite like to know this!
I'm contemplating buying a new MINI One, £2000 seems like a good deal given that from what I've read on the internet you're lucky to get £500 off the list price from any MINI dealership.
Would it be fair to say that by taking advantage of the scrappage scheme you are reducing your exposure to the depreciation usually associated with buying a new car? Or do people think that the popularity of the scheme will inevitably mean that the second hand value of the car will be lower a few years down the line?0 -
Did you notice my post above, Mini FIRST at £10,950or £8,950 with scrappage? Trouble is, the spec it too basic to make it realistic. And a fiddly 6 speed gearbox (I would only do 6k miles much on country roads).0

Funnily enough I popped in to the MINI dealership the other day and they had a MINI First in the showroom. Did have a look at it but as you say it is a very basic spec. It's far too easy to get carried away with all the extras available and soon gets very expensive! Think they've introduced it to make themselves more competitive with the lower end models of Citroens, Fords, Renaults etc.0 -
Yes, you can claim your tax back.0

The Mini (if you like them) seems an excellent choice for the scrappage scheme as a discount is nigh on impossible and part exchange prices abysmal (I speak from experience).
The TLC pack is worth adding, but if I was buying a base model it would be exactly that,
no frills. Mine is specced up but I would still rather have a base Mini than most of the so called 'value cars', and I love the 6spd gearbox it's a hoot to drive.
