Car Scrappage Scheme

I used carfile for my deal too. But do check out about having to drive to get your car. The dealer Jonathan put us in touch with is delivering the car to us and taking away the scrap one and another I used for part exchange.
We have also saved £800 - it was a lot more than that but then VW upped its scrappage deal through all dealers.
I was hoping for delivery / collection too, but as I'm up in Scotland and the dealer is almost 500 miles away, there was no dealers who were prepared to come this far for delivery and collection of my car and none of the brokers / dealers had a Scottish dealer on their books for any Scrappage deals or otherwise. Their loss (Scottish dealers that is and I can't believe the difference in price in the cars for the sake of a couple of phone calls).
Thankfully, fingers, eyes, toes, legs etc crossed my car a 1997 Ford Mondeo with just under 79k on the clock, just looks cosmetically awful (broken rear bumper, but also needs a couple of other things done to spruce it up hence the reason to trade, car tax being a major one and my kids are all but one at the driving age and the Mondeo will cost an arm, leg and possibly a kidney to get them put on the insurance. All boys and a 1.8l engine just doesn't go. Yaris is 1.33l so much cheaper all round in more than one way).
I've no doubt it should manage the drive down no problem, it's been a very reliable car for the 6 years I've had it so far. My only concern other than the length of the drive, is can I do it with only one full tank of petrol? Don't want to fill it up again to waste excess if you know what I mean. My local mechanic told me to drip feed the car if I run out or call my breakdown service to take me the rest of the way.
Still can't believe I'm getting a "new, new" car for the first time in my life. Anyone else in this position?
Finally does anyone know a decent B&B in or around Attleborough, Norfolk where I can stay over night and drive home the following day. May even stay two nights. Thanks.0 -
Ah ah, I know which dealer you are using now
Attleborough is the next town along from me
Try this place:

The green dragon is in the centre of town but the other two are only minutes by car so you may want the quietness of the countryside and easy parking and yet still be able to get to the town (large village really
) for a bit of mooching/sight seeing.

I am considering using the scrappage scheme but as follows:
- My dad has a car >10 years old. My car is 3 years old.
- I want a new car and my dad wants my current car.
- He purchases a new car in his name and gets the scrappage scheme discount for his old car.
- On arrival of the new car he transfers its registration to me.
- I transfer my current car to him.
So basically, I get a new car, he gets my current car and his old car gets scrapped.
Does this seem legit? I can't see anything in the guidelines which stops me from doing this.0 -

Why did all the car companies increase the price of the cars in July when the pound is in a stronger position than it was last year???
Could you still get the price of a car from a dealer for Junes prices under the scrappage scheme?0 -

I have used Carfile and they were brilliant
The dealership you are using I have used for my last car purchase and they were brilliant in fact I would say they are the best dealership I have ever used .
I am using them again shortly
Hethmar has local knowledge of the area so will know the best places to stay !!! there is a Travelodge on the Norwich end of the A11 about 12 miles away you can sometimes pick up rooms for £19 a night if you are lucky0 -
Ive given some places above to stay - nicer ones than a travel lodge - particularly if you are on your own.

Well I have sat here for HOURS and read every post but I am still a little confused and would love some help if possible.
Right, my daughter has this week ordered a new car under the scrappage scheme. She fits all the neccessary criteria. What we would like some help with is this: her MOT runs out middle of September, insurance runs out end of July and her tax runs out end of August. She is now very nervous that something will happen to her old car between now and when her new one arrives which is approximately first week of October.
The dealership has said they have no problem with her dropping it off at their place at anytime before the new one comes but it is at her own risk if it is not insured and if anything happens to it they will not be liable (which is fair enough). She is willing to do without a car for a while and use the bus and also saw it as a chance to save on a couple of months insurance payments (she is 18 so not cheap) etc.
She is quite willing to let the tax and MOT expire and cancel the insurance and keep it safely locked up on our drive for a while or even just re-tax it for 6 months if need be, but then how will she stand for getting rid of it when the new one arrives? Will they accept it with no current insurance, MOT and possibly no tax? If so, how do we get it there?
Any advice gratefully received!

Noticed that the Telegraph as advertising the Mini FIRST today at £10,950 and £2k off that for Scrappage. Pity abut the bare bones spec though, not really worth having without a decent stereo and either aircon or a sunroof - which would put the price up by £2k again. This is the 1.4 litre 75 BHP 6 speed one - wonder what the VED on it would be.0
