Well I admire your faith in the motor industry, I stand by what I said, it is blatantly obvious that some car makers have been milking this for all it's worth, the same car makers that this was designed to help.

Perhaps the government should have insisted on day one, no price increases throughout the scheme period, if they wished to participate.

but what exactly are the government giving to the scheme, that allows them to dictate how a company prices its stock?

the government are giving £1000k off a car, but are still getting back their 15% VAT (which on a £5k car is £750) - whereas the manufacturer is stumping up the full £1k - why do people not realise this £1k has to come from somewhere. If the dealer/manuf could discount the low end cars by £1k, then dont you think they would have been doing it by now to generate sales?

just look at GM, one of the biggest manufacturers, they specalised in mid-range cars, and even with their pricing structure, couldnt make a go if - unless there has been massive underhand dealings at management level, where has all their money gone? maybe its the fact cars are being sold for less than it costs to make them? I think people just have to get used to paying the true value of a product, and not seem so focused on the fact they think they are being diddled by sales tactics

A lifeline that is now being abused by some makers.

They were doing it before this scheme, and still are to non-scrappage customers in many cases.

GM has for years been making over priced rubbish cars, they deserve to fail, the only decent cars that they sell are the ones sourced from Suzuki.

I stand by ererything that I have said, some makers are milking this for all it's worth, and you and I are paying for it via taxes.

I agree I went into Volkswagen to get a Polo they matched the what car target price of £8949 instantly instead of RRP of £9610 saving £661 but as soon as I mentioned scrappage they said they only work from RRP so I would only save £1339, once the scrappage money has run out I doubt it will of kick started the motor industry and it will slip back into the doldrums again, I don't understand why the motor industry takes advantage of the olive branch they have been gifted, they may well learn when sales slide after scrappage has expired, I wouldn't be surprised if the government extend the offer.

Try some of the online car brokers, like carfile - theres a list somewhere above here.

GM UK just like Ford have a fake price list, like the soft furnishing sellers, so that sales and massive discounts are meant to woo the buyer. But I would not say their products are bad, my Vectra is in it's 12th year and is still a comfortable quiet motor.

I was pretty appalled by the way Volkwagen sales team worked, they said "we can sell Polo's all day at RRP so if you don't buy someone else will" as I was working at the top of my budget with £8949 then they increased the price by £661, this would of paid for my insurance and my first 3 services and still had some to spare, so not a small amount, so I did the only thing I could do and took my business elsewhere,

I went to Toyota and got a base model Aygo for £7489 it worked out as £1460 less than the Polo I wanted, The Aygo does 62 MPG where as VW Polo only does 48 MPG,

Thanks Hethmar, I listed them, I found the cheapest was drivethedeal but when I phoned them up they had a very poor attitude, all I needed to confirm was that the price wouldn't go up after I had placed my order for a Toyota Aygo, he couldn't do this, I would of only saved £250 on the car with the broker, as I was paying cash so this incurred a £500 penalty for not taking finance ???, and the broker could not supply 1 years breakdown free, £100 lower for the 3 services, free mats, and glovebox lid, as well as £25 of fuel, and the most important thing I needed was the price not to increase while waiting 3 months for the car, so £250 looked pretty poor especially as I know Citroen are increasing prices this month by £120, so that could well happen every month of the 3 that I am waiting with the broker.

I used https://www.carfile.net to get the price for my Yaris, Johnathan who I spoke to was fantastic from start to finish. No pushy sales talk just very informative and no such thing as a silly question.

He then put me in touch with a dealer in East Anglia - Andrew (not sure if I can name the garage / dealer for Johnathan's sake so won't on here). The dealer or it's rep phone me back soon after after saying yes to Johnathan, and again went through all the information with me. I needed a copy of my V5 as I couldn't find mine so couldn't do the deal there an then. (I went to my local DVLA and ordered one directly there paying £25 and got the replacement in 2 days if that helps anyone, other wise it can take up to two weeks).

Anyway once I had the replacement, I emailed all the documents over to him, and we did the deal. One Toyota Yaris ordered in red, the price now is the price I will pay on the day and I pick it up 1st September even though it should be here last week of August. Perfect.

Andrew was an absolute star (if you ever read this you really were and credit where credit due), when discussing finance. I sat with an egg loan calculator and various terms and he sat with his car finance calculator to see what came out with the best deal. Although egg was more flexible in the terms of over payments on the loan, if I was to take the fixed term then the dealer worked out the cheapest.

The moral, don't dismiss the brokers - I'm shocked at the saving - £800 compared to the Toyota garage approximately 2 miles along the road. Their attitude when I asked about matching the price was no chance and basically hung up. NOT IMPRESSED THERE.

Even taking into account the several hundred mile drive to get to East Anglia, I'll still be quids in and I'm kinda looking forward to the drive and if anyone can recommend a B&B round the area, I'm laughing!

I used carfile for my deal too. But do check out about having to drive to get your car. The dealer Jonathan put us in touch with is delivering the car to us and taking away the scrap one and another I used for part exchange.

We have also saved £800 - it was a lot more than that but then VW upped its scrappage deal through all dealers.
