We now have our PAC's, which we are going to gladly move to O2 and get ourselves some iphones. Fair enough, O2 are generally more expensive, but you get what you pay for i.e. better service and network.
Goodbye 3 !!
Congratulations on getting out of your contracts! Before you rush into new contracts for iphones, I would suggest looking at the HTC Magic on Vodaphone and the T-Mobile G1, as these are very good handsets, and can do everything an iphone can, but without the tie-ins ( i.e. apple itunes and to a certain extent a MacOS X computer of some sort ) and for a cheaper monthly cost. My G1 costs me £23 /month and is on a 12 month contract, so it is a much lower cost overall. If you a Gmail account then it is a much smarter move than getting an iphone imho.
There are also many other smart phones available, and non-smart phones with touchscreens these days, so make sure you shop around before handing over your cash / pac codes.
As for getting what you pay for with O2, I wouldn't be so sure - I have been with both and don't really see any benefit in paying more for an O2 contract but your mileage may vary. I've never had a problems with 3's coverage or customer service, in fact when I said I wanted to cancel yesterday they didn't even argue and conceded the point immediately. My wife is with 3 on a £10 for life deal for 500 minutes a month, so she is staying put unless I can find an amazing offer somewhere...0 -

For £9.79 per month (for life!)
750 mins
150 texts (not so great but im a talker not a texter)
£20 account credit (so 2 months free line rental essentially)
50 video minutes
£5 of downloads from the 3 site
A sony ericsson G502
Not too shabby, for the same money they also offered 1000 texts and 300 mins but i went with the above.
I've started a thread on HUKD but can't post links due to first post!

I left three last week for a G1 on t-mobile. I can make calls at home again and the G1 is a great phone that can handle MP3's without using itunes.
Pleased with it.
Just waiting for the final bill from 3.0 -
in the pricing guide I downloaded when I unfortunately signed up with 3 I find the following.
page 22 and 23 "3 Like Home. With 3 Like Home, you can use your inclusive minutes and text messages to call or text standard UK numbers when you are on any of the participating networks while abroad.1" (the one indicates footnote 1 on page 32 of same document)
page 32 footnote 1 "International calls and messages, calls
and messages made and received whilst
abroad (other than calls and text
messages to standard UK numbers when
you are on a participating 3 Like Home
network), premium rate calls and
messages, reverse charge messages,
message alert services and directory
service calls, calls to 0800 / 0500 / 0808
numbers that are not on the THA list, nongeographic
numbers (087, 084) and
special numbers (eg 090, 070) are
excluded from any monthly and Top-up
voice and messaging allowances"
This seems to me to be a comprehensively "included" service, certainly to the monthly package I signed up to in summer 2008.
Clause 10 only requires that one is "likely" to suffer detriment. no historical use needs to be demonstrated.
If you get any Bull just quote the above document and references and tough it out.
Also, just do it in writing Recorded Delivery. Dont enter into a verbal, they havent got a leg to stand, I probably wont have a leg to stand on if they find out who I am.:A0 -

I am in the 11th month of an 18 month contract with 3 and have an N958GB and am very happy overall. I have mix and match 500 and my bill changes between £30 and £40 per month.
I'd like to bring that bill down a bit. My options then seem to either be threaten to leave and see if they will offer me a discount.
Alternative is to actually leave and then sign up to an alternative provider and keep my phone number. The benefit here being that I will have a mobile phone handset to bring with me.
What would people on here recommend?0 -

You signed up for an 18 month contract, you need to see out that minimum term or pay to end it. The get out of 3 like home being removed has to be taken up quickly or you'll have been deemed to accept the change by continued use of the phone
Threatening to leave will make no difference as your still in that minimum contract term. They may give you a PAC code but it needs to be done now.
You may be able to get a downgrade but that will be at the discression of the person you get to.0 -
