Asda - carrier bags

It's called conversation.
Instead of following the company script, put some out, and let them take them if they wish.0 -
Totally agree! I work at M&S and we charge 5p for bags. You wouldn't believe how often the customer will say that they need a bag and I say "they're 5p, is that ok?" and they say "Oh it's ok, I've got one in my handbag".
I've also heard the "I'm not paying 5p to advertise for you" one so many times. You could guarantee if we provided plain bags, they'd be the first to moan that we're cheap and our bags should have something on them.
The thing is, if I have a nice, decent customer who's happy to pay for one bag and then find out they actually need some more, I won't bother to charge them for the others.
On the other hand if I have a snotty customer who feels it's all MY fault for personally introducing a nationwide charge on M&S carrier bags, I'll charge them for every single one.
Just bear in mind how grateful the cashier is for a smile and a hello and you might just get something back. Often I've been sitting on a till for 4 hours without a break, it's been non stop, my neck is killing me and I'm exhausted to the point of feeling sick. The last thing I want is someone being clever and deciding to leave £70s worth of shopping at my till. Have some manners! A friendly customer can make my day.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
I wish customers would stop telling me their excuses about not having bags. The number of times I've heard oh i've left them in the car. I don't really care if you don't have any bags I just want a yes or no answer so I know to give you bags or not.
In Sainsburys we are actually meant to ask "Do you have your own bags today?" but the number of people that find it difficult to answer that question leads to most people changing it to "do you need any bags?" which if you get a grumpy mystery customer could lead to the cashier failing.
Same in Asda, you have to use certain words or risk failing the mystery shop.0 -

I don't mind making conversation I do all the time, it just gets boring when you hear the same excuses over and over again.
Plus if I left bags out for people to take I would fail the Mystery Customer. Our store failed a few weeks ago for having bags out on display.0 -
The real issue is with your management, the plastic bag policy is all over the place - either they are free or they are not.
The things that you are judged on by mystery shoppers need changing. As a customer, I prefer a friendly/helpful member of staff to a robot, and don't want to be patronised with a challenging discussion about green issues every time I get to the checkout.
The staff who help you pack without asking are high up on my list for excellent service - breath of fresh air when it happens.0 -
I went to TK MAXX to get some trainers for my girlfriend and bought her two pairs. Went to the counter, they never offered me a box. And then said "Will you be buying a carrier bag"?. To Which I replied with "Buy one?". And she said yes, they are 10p. There was no sign of anything, and I was annoyed enough because there wasnt any boxes for the shoes. So I said "I'll leave them and come back". I returned 20 minutes later with my own bags. And said to the girl "That if they gonna charge for bags they should have a sign up around the store, and if its for environmental reasons then I think its rubbish. Its far easier to recycle re-enforced paper bags, when a plastic bag rips, thats it, landfill and game over. And a tree is a renewable source of energy. I'm 98% sure oil isn't, which is what plastic is based on!!!!!!!!!Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

This from the supermarket that when we ordered our shopping online used one bag for just a single cadbury creme egg and many other bags just had one item in them!0

Hmmm. I value my time at more than 30p per hour so I think I would have paid 10p and remembered to take a bag the next time.0 -
We generally use some carrier bags to some of the cashiers disgust. It's funny how they say it's for 'environmental' reasons when half the time our Sainsbury's has run out of the basics people need, necessitating another trip to the bloody place which of course uses more fuel... Bloody hypocrites.....0

As for the Mystery Customer, that is not the fault of THE customer, its something you should take up with your managers, a customer will either HAVE or NOT HAVE a carrier bag, whatever the reasons. If a customer asks for bags and is prepared to pay for the privilege, who are you to complain?:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
