Asda - carrier bags

Just bear in mind how grateful the cashier is for a smile and a hello and you might just get something back. Often I've been sitting on a till for 4 hours without a break, it's been non stop, my neck is killing me and I'm exhausted to the point of feeling sick. The last thing I want is someone being clever and deciding to leave £70s worth of shopping at my till. Have some manners! A friendly customer can make my day.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

true oh so trueReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
I couldnt agree more with you, a smile costs nothing and reaps its own rewards. However, this is a two way system, I'm less likely to smile and greet a member of staff who rants or looks down on me, simply because I don't have a bag at hand, I have zero objections in paying 5p for a carrier bag, that being the case I dont expect the cashier to say "Oh ive had a busy day - been working this till nonm stop...blah, blah, blah....". Truth is, I dont care how bad a day you have had, as much as you wouldnt care how bad a day I (the customer) has had, unfortunately for you, thats what your paid to do. All I can do as a customer, is politely ask if you have a carrier bag and expect you to politley charge me the bag fee.0

Which I have no problem with, it's just when you ask for bags and you get given A bag. This is with a £100 trolley!
I totally agree, I don't mind paying for a bag but for every time I ask for one I get a dirty look like I've dropped my pants and done a turd on the checkout! Either they want my custom or not.
I re-use the bags as bin liners it's much easier.0 -

Unfortunatly, it's the powers that be, that've never set foot on a shopfloor that come up with these bright ideas, if I remember rightly (I don't go on the tills that often) when someone asks for a bag, you give them one or two, when they've filled them and ask for more, you give them another one or two...apparently it's supposed to stop people taking 50 bags for 5 items (and yes people do take that many when they're just there and in easy reach)0 -
I thought it was just me that re-uses bags as liners - but seems many people do. As we are all now buying liners - doesn't that amount to the same plastic wastage? So the idea that it is a green issue seems quite reversed, and is becoming a money spinner.
Sainsbury seem to have good balance -they pay green points if you take your own, and ask pleasantly if you need a bag, informing you that you are welcome to more if you need them.0 -
Most stores that charge for carrier bags either don't give the money from the bags to charity or they don't advertise the fact if they do(which i would of thought they would do).
But it doesn't bother me asking for bags when i go to asda as i have the worst memory and when i forget to put my 5p bags in my handbag i have no problems asking for the carrier bags, but i did cause a problem at the tills once when i was told they didn't have any carrier bags so would have to buy the 5p bags but i clearly showed them that at the self checkout and on atleast 5 other tills their was carrier bags so she could get some bags from her fellow staff members to give to her customers - boy was she grumpy, but i have around 20 of the 5p bags at home and 4 of the hessian bags and didn't want anymore - and i also re-use the carrier bags for my OH's to take his sandwiches in to work as he won't take them in a sandwich box etc.0 -
I wish customers would stop telling me their excuses about not having bags. The number of times I've heard oh i've left them in the car. I don't really care if you don't have any bags I just want a yes or no answer so I know to give you bags or not.
In Sainsburys we are actually meant to ask "Do you have your own bags today?" but the number of people that find it difficult to answer that question leads to most people changing it to "do you need any bags?" which if you get a grumpy mystery customer could lead to the cashier failing.0
