Asda - carrier bags

I work for ASDA and we were recently told that ASDA will never stop providing free poly bags. We ran out of poly bags a few weeks back and gave the green "use me reuse me" bags out for free until we got our free bags back in store.
We are not allowed to have bags at the end of the till for people to take, customers have to ask for them.0 -
i think asda staff are struggling with the shall i shant i give u a bag issue.....we shop there every tuesday night and sometomes u get given more than u need...cashier couldnt care then other weeks u are made to feel as if u personally are causing all the enviromental problems in the world.....i think they need to decide what approach they are taking and take itonwards and upwards0

1.) I recycle bags all the time. I carry my lunch in them. Re-use them for rubbish at home etc etc
2.) I do not mind paying a few pence for a carry bag (such as TK maxx and M&S), thats my choice for not having one, so am happy to pay.
I would prefer it if however these pence went to charity rather than the shop but there you go.
Whilst I dont agree with boycotting the shop, dont see that will help anybody, I do agree in essence with what the OP is saying.
I have an ASDA opposite my workplace. I sometimes go on a whim, or while I am out pop in. I dont carry a plastic bag with me all the time ( I simply am not that prepared), it does not make me ignorant or harmful to the environment. But if I am refused a bag, then I can not carry everything in my arms, so will leave the stuff.
Like somepeople say it is the principal of they moan to use about bags being reused then use excess packaging in their products, yet dont think to wonder whether the customer is actually reusing the bags at hom etc.
BTW when I was in Dublin, every shop I went in used paper bags, like Primark does now. Why do shops over there use them and here we dont?!?Is a sufferer of SAD, so don't blame me, blame the depressing English weather!!!:beer:0 -
I'm all for saving the environment in my own little way, even down to the carrier bags. I WONT be lectured from a store about it when they place all my products in the bag, each individually wrapped with plastic, polystyrene or double plastic wrapped, which lets be honest ISN'T recycled packaging.
People forget the times Milk was sold in glass bottles, fruit was sold in paper bags. Those were the days recycling was encouraged, from returning pop bottles to collecting aluminium cans, as kids we all got involved. This was before the invention of plastic (seen by supermarkets as the ideal form of packaging as it was so much cheaper for them).
Lets not forget it wasn't the customers who cried out for plastic bottles and packaging, so if we are all duty bound nowadays to complete the tasks of recycling, lets not forget where the blame solely lies for all these plastic "containers" that we are now suddenly overwhelmed with.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I use my 'bag for life' take it home, take the shopping out, fold the bag and put it back into my handbag. it's not hard.
There's no need for all the generalisation of the checkout staff. You all seem to base one bad example and tar everyone as the same. shows your own ignorance.0 -
Ditto, I think that's what people are complaining about, those less brighter individuals i.e the Staff, who tar everyone with the same brush, simply because they DIDNT take a carrier bag to a supermarket.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I recycle, but sometimes you need new bags when all your old ones have holes in and no handles. Sometimes, you are just caught without one.0

I was saying the generalisation from people on here about the staff. You have just did the same, generalised staff as being 'less brighter'
Because someone works in shop they are not bright? i'm sure there are plenty who arnt bright, but i'm sure there are plenty who are.
I doubt the staff are tarring everyone with the same brush (once again, i'm sure there are probably some who do) everybody is different, everyone has there own way of saying things, some people word things better than others, some people look at people certain ways and some people don't. everyone is individuale. If you want checkout operators to act like robots, then why don't you just buy online or use the self service tills?
Once again, there is no need to generalise a whole very large group of people.0 -
