Don't move line rental to Sky at least until you're out of your contract with BT - it'll cost you big bucks if you do.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Hi mredmred!
Heinz is correct about the £2.95 charge. It is for the Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan and is in addition to the basic line rental charge of £12.50. If you would like me to check your order please send me your details.
Cheers
Anne

I went for this offer thinking that I would end up paying £11.25 per month for line rental with paperless billing and direct debit. I phoned BT and they confirmed this so I arranged for an engineer to visit.
When the confirmation paperwork came through they had listed a charge of £2.95 per month for the Unlimited Evening and Weekend call plan which I had not requested??? When I contacted BT again to remove this charge they stated that I had to pay this to qualify for the free line connection.
Obviously BT think that committing to an 18 month contract and having to make 10 chargeable calls a month isnt enough!!!!
Has anybody else noticed this con??0 -

I haven't been forced onto the Unlimited Evening and Weekend plan mate.
They did ask whether I needed any call packages but I just said no.
My paperwork says the same thing and I also recorded the call for my own piece of mind so have that as back up too.....
Strange that they are forcing you to have it. Wonder if its just a sales assistant trying it on?0 -
BT Company Rep, can you look into my post No 70 above and reply please.

Thanks to reading this I called BT and have arranged for my installation charge of £122.50 to be credited to my account when I move house next week. It took 3 departments, but eventually ended up in "home movers" (where I had placed my order one week ago on 22/4/09). They agreed to advise the billing department to waive the installation fee. Thanks MSE!0

I contacted BT yesterday and spoke to the Customer Options Team. Explained that I wanted to come back to BT and had heard of a special deal for free connection. The operator said "yes this deal is available but they don't really talk about it, it is mainly aimed at customers who are on cable". Terms are that you have to agree to an 18 month contract at a minimum of £12.95 a month and that you cannot transfer the line rental over to Sky, for example.
That suits me though and I have an engineer booked for next week and thanks to moneysavingexpert I have just saved myself £120 woohoo0 -
I heard Martin talking this morning, phoned BT, got straight through, now have new line being fitted, free, next week! Many thanks Martin and it all took no longer than 10 mins:T0

Seems to be looking good and BT options team seem to be better informed now, wondered how much I have saved people since my original post on this excellent MSE site :j
But not sure if this has been mentioned in this post....
Be warey of the 24 month (not 18 month) trap if you wish to change after 18 months!!!
If you sign up for the free evenings and weekends ( or anytime ) plan they are fixed 12 month (renewable) contracts HOWEVER in the offer it states...
"Customers must remain on their chosen Calling Plan for 18 months..."
Therefore if you choose the 12 month fixed contract you will need to carry it for 24 months for the £122.50 reduction... unless you go for the Unlimited Weekend plan!0
