  • I spoke to BT yesterday (before I knew about this free offer) and was told that it was £122 for connection - no mention of a free installation and I remember thinking that it was a confusing conversation.

    Hi,

thanks for this - just moved so really helpful to be able to miss out on that ridiculous £122 connection fee.

I called the regular number (in the original email) and the sales team were able to set it up for me.

I have an 18 month contract with free weekend calls for 12.50 (down to 11.20 if i opt for paperless billing) per month with a direct debit, to commence once an engineer has come and fixed the line.

the only annoying bit is the 10 billable calls a month (ie outside of the free package) but i will make these in the evening at 1.5p (ish) a minute and there's no minimum time or charge for these calls.

    sounds ok to me???

Am i the only one to have not battled for this?? feels like i might have missed something as he was happy to set it up and didn't mention the site/GMTV or try to dissuade me at all!!

These calls DO NOT have to be chargable. They can be made using your free weekend package.

I kept a post from a while back should anyone need confirmation that inclusive calls count!

No you're not the only one. I did not have any problems either getting the free deal although I must admit that if I had not mentioned it, the sales person was not going to mention it to me, and I think this is very naughty of BT not to volunteer this info. My flatmate was unaware of the offer as he does not visit this website. If he had been the one placing the order through, we would have been stung for the £122.50 unnecessarily

thanks i'll check this out - the man on the phone said they definitely had to be billable calls (outside of the free weekend calls) - I will double check the Ts&Cs.

glad you managed to get it.:)

same thing happened with a colleague of mine - she ended up paying the connection fee as they don't advertise the deal. V sneaky of BT not to tell but I'm just pleased i found out about it in time.

Actually got this deal when talking to customer advisor online through their chat window. Have everything in writing and actually sent him the link with the deal and he confirmed this can be done online too. Just thought i'd let people know. Thanks Martin

I recently had a new line installed with BT, after moving house, and called to see if I could claim back the charges I was billed, after viewing the note on moneysavingexpert.com .
I was told that I had not been charged for the actual line but rather the labour, and that this was over £200.
This was not broken down in the bill and when I asked to discuss this they claimed that this was for labour, despite the engineer telling me it would only cost £160, it has now cost me over £200.
I feel that I have been over charged and if anybody has suffered anything similar to this then I would appreciate any advice and feedback! [wink wink martin:money:]

Be warey of the 24 month (not 18 month) trap if you wish to change after 18 months!!!

If you sign up for the free evenings and weekends ( or anytime ) plan they are fixed 12 month (renewable) contracts HOWEVER in the offer it states...

"Customers must remain on their chosen Calling Plan for 18 months..."

Therefore if you choose the 12 month fixed contract you will need to carry it for 24 months for the £122.50 reduction... unless you go for the Unlimited Weekend plan!
I'm not sure this is right, Andy. If you sign up for a calling plan with this offer, you pay a different price than a normal customer, eg, £17.20 if you take Anytime plan. So, maybe it is not the same as a normal plan.

The BT Notice setting out the terms of this offer says:
"If the customer decides to end the contract within the 18 month minimum term, they will incur a single charge of £7.50(on the Unlimited Weekend and Unlimited Evening & Weekend plans) or £8.00(on the Unlimited Anytime plan) for each month left of the minimum term."

It says nothing about charges for terminating after 18 months, which I think means there is no charge, because the plan term is 18 months, same as your line rental lock-in term.

I think this is corroborated by the further wording in the Notice:
"Customers wishing to move to a new Calling Plan at the end of the minimum term may do so by contacting BT."
