Hi all!,
Just called BT this morning and asked for the offer! Was told they no longer install the line for free any more it is now £29 which gets applied to the first bill. The line rental has gone up now too, to 12.95 per month for the basic package with weekend calls on an 18 month agreement.
Cheers p_rapper0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

IIRC you are put on paper billing as a matter of course as they have to send you your account details before you can apply for paperless billing.
My point being OFCOM now takes quite a dim view of telecommunications companies who do not give consumers a full break down in all costings involved in their contracts. No mention was made during the sales process about the line rental actually costing £11.54 plus £1.25 for a paper bill, neither was I given the option to opt out.
I have had to go through BT as I have no option, to save money due to Virgin Media's ever increasing prices! I could have been looking at an extra £22.50 over the 18 month term had I not been given the previous advice!
Thanks again!0 -
Well just thought I would share my thoughts on BT as I’m currently moving and was dreading paying the £125 connection charge. I was convinced there must be a way to reduce this and thanks to some other eagle eye posters there is. A quick trip to the BT website confirmed the offer and the celebrations began. But wait its one thing to see an offer but quite another to obtain.
I called the standard BT sales team and low and behold they were aware of no such offer, are you mad they sneered, £29 (Not their exact words). Then I was advised if the offer was on the web, must be a online deal only (Time to put my trainers on). So I went online and looked everywhere, even went through the ordering process but no sign of the 18 month contract.
Then I spoke to one of their live agents online who asked me for the link before checking and confirming it was available but only by calling 0800 731 0286. So I decided not to call that number and called the moving home team on 0800 800 150. The woman was first class knew all about the offer and wrapped up the whole process in about 10 Mins. So I have a visit from an engineer on the 17 May and will only pay a one off connection fee of £29 for a 18 month contract. There are a few min call quotas per month but saving £96 is great thanks MoneySavingExpert and all those sharp posters! :beer:0 -
Hello
I need some help!
Ive been with Tiscali, then I was moved to Talktalk, I have no contract left with TT. I tried to move over to a BT landline by applying online. I put my telephone no & postcode in and their website states re:
"Engineer visit and charge
No engineer visit or charge
Great news! We can connect your new line free of charge and without an engineer visit. We'll give you the earliest available activation date."
Could this be true or will they whack on a charge later after they cut me off from Talktalk??
Thanks0 -
If I were you I would take a screen shot of that page when you submit the order, and/or print it out.0

Hi. BT have very recently stopped their "paperless billing discount" that reduced line rental to £11.54 per month, so their basic package is now £12.79. So, for anyone who is thinking about taking up their installation offer may wish to consider Primus instead:
£8.99 per month (includes free evening and weekend calls) - quote the HomePhoneChoices.co.uk offer
£69.00 installation fee
Primus works out cheaper after 10 or 11 months, plus you are only tied to a 12 month contract, not like BT's 18 month. As a downside, I have been advised that connection can take between 14 - 21 days, which is slightly longer than what BT were offering.
Beware, it is a 12 month auto-renewal contract so be sure to cancel at least 30 days before the end or else you are stuck for another 12 months.0
