Guess I was lucky.. as soon as I mentioned the £29.99 offer the lady I spoke to knew exactly what i meant (just mentioned the £29.99 connection offer which is running until 30th June on their website).

I didn't argue about the £12.79.. think I'll follow up after getting my first bill saying that wasn't stated on the offer details and should be £11.54.
You need to opt for paper free billing to get the £11.54 price

I just phoned twice to take up the £29.99 offer, but the advisors were having none of it.

However, I have now successfully placed my order online - simply click this link and hey presto! :money:

The other alternative is to refer the advisor to the offer T&C .

Thanks Cheddar, I wasn't able to get the offer on the phone (the customer service guy said that I'd need to sign up for phone, TV and broadband to get that offer!) but the link worked for me. One thing to point out though is that it does require you to take the Unlimited Anytime Plan:

Unlimited Anytime Plan Connection Charge offer
Special offer: Line connection for only £29.99 saving you £95.00. Unlimited UK landline calls any time of the day only £4.99 a month plus £11.54 a month line rental on an 18 month contract. To benefit from this offer you need make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls with BT every 3 months if you are billed quarterly, or 10 calls a month if you are billed monthly.

It does not require you to take tv,and broadband as well nor does it require you to take the unlimited calls bundle.Advisor just trying to earn more commission.

Refer them to the t&c http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/dynamicmodules/pagecontentfooter/pageContentFooterPopup.jsp?pagecontentfooter_popupid=24641

Line Connection Charge for £29.99 Special Offer – 18 month minimum term.

"Customers taking this Special Offer will benefit from a £98 discount on the standard line connection charge of £127.99. Offer available between 2nd February 2010 and 30th June 2010 inclusive, Available to eligible new and existing customers agreeing to an 18 month contract on the Unlimited Weekend Plan (£11.54 per month), the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan (£14.53 per month) or the Unlimited Anytime Plan (£16.53 per month). • Just for everyone's info - I phoned BT a few minutes ago to get this offer for a new flat I'm buying, and was told that it has now been extended until 30 September.

Just spoke to BT who say it's £12.79 per month for the special offer (£29.99 connection fee).

Which will be £11.54/month if you pay by direct debit and opt for paper-free billing.

Don't forget it's an 18 month contract and you must make 10 calls per month.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Glad I've found this thread.

I think I've done everything right. Moving into a different house, has a BT line but no dial tone. So perhaps a 'reactivation' rather than an installation?

    ---

Went through quidco, and chose the 'socket is not damaged option'

Looks like they've charged me £11.54 a month (12 month contract), and they wanted £50 deposit as my previous address has only been used for a year.

But, the order crashed out after the natwest securecode thing!

    ----

So, I re-did it all (through quidco again), this time using a different email address on the BT site., and put my billing address down on the 2 year history instead. No page crash this time - it went through fine as it didn't need to take a £50 deposit and load that damned securecode.

    ----

Here's the weird thing - have only had one order confirmation, which was sent to the second email address I used, which is how it should be. Have also received the quidco tracking email (which I've checked - it related to the second transaction).

However, I've had an email to the first email address (that resulted in the failed account setup) saying 'paper e-billing setup succesful'.

If you try and log in using the second set of details (which should be the live one), there is no linked account. If you login using the first set of details (the transaction that didn't go through), it shows the BT account.

Strange, really hope it doesn't affect quidco, not sure whether to do anything or just leave it? Presume the quidco is linked to the BT account/my new address, rather than whichever online bt.com account it's linked to? Can't track the order yet so will try again tomorrow.

    (hope that all makes sense)
