Thanks, but I've never been with BT before, only with Virgin (cable) so I'm a new customer.

Have just had confirmation of the new telephone number to the email address i used the 1st time around. Like I said I guess it doesn't matter which online BT account is linked, so long as there's only one telephone account, but this is all quite strange, as it seemed the 1st order did not complete.

Will have to see if that £50 advance payment comes out or not I guess.

I just phoned twice to take up the £29.99 offer, but the advisors were having none of it.

However, I have now successfully placed my order online - simply click this link and hey presto!
When I click the link it has Line rental at £16.53 rather than 12.53 ?

    Hi Bossworld,

This sounds a bit strange doesn't it? I can check our records to see why that happened (and also to check you only have the one order going through!) so if you want email me your details (including both email addresses) and I'll take it from there. The email address can be found in my profile.

    All the best,

    Hi Stephanie,

I have emailed you from one! of the email accounts.

Many thanks for your offer of help, I would just like to check that this won't jeopardise the quidco cashback?

    Joe

EDIT 1: Just checked online banking and the credit card payment of £50 has been taken, which to me makes it look as though the first order did in fact go through in the end (maybe just in part) and the second one must have been cancelled or merged? Still doesn't really explain why I've been receiving emails accross different addresses.

I am thinking of taking up the offer of £29.99 installation for 18 months with paperless billing and direct debit payment. I am only going to sign up for the weekend calls package which is £11.54.
I understand you must make 10 chargeabale calls a month. Does anyone know if I can make all of the 10 chargeable calls per month at the weekend so it comes out of the weekend package or must I make the calls at a time when they are not included in my package.
Also does anyone know if I can then sign up for Sky broadband?
    Thanks.

You can make the calls at the weekend so they come out of your package. And you should also be able to get sky broadband on your line.

If you're struggling to make those 10 calls, dial 020 7043 1320 (a geographical number for the speaking clock) a few times at the weekend.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I think I may go for the BT line for £29.99 installation and stick it out for 18 months then I can shop around again. My sis has the sky BB free package but we have had a prob with it in terms of useage. Its quite a low quota for the free BB - if you go over the useage twice they put you on the nxt package up which is £7.50pm which I don't think is competitive. So I'll do a bit of research on this site and see if any other BB is better value now I can see a way of getting a a BT line
