thanks @JustPassingBy will have a look
I called up to find out some details and she said it was up to £15.78, I would have thought legally they would have to abide by whatever price they quoted on their website?
If no-one expected shirts to be ironed then we'd all have time for more important things:T

But £15.78 is the price (£15.78 minus £1.25 paper-free discount if you opt for that = £14.53).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

  • I just got the deal, I told them I read it on THEIR website then he had no reason to say no. The man on the phone was clearly unhappy with my requests and was very moody! He would NOT give me the 11.54 deal saying that it had changed and it cannot be given for the 11.54 but 12.79, ANYTHING FOR AN EXTRA QUID but all in all I got a new line for £29.99 and a DEPOSIT of £25 which I will get back in 6 months. I have no idea why this is but there we go. Hope this helps.

£12.79 is the correct price. To get the £11.54 price you simply opt for online billing and get the £1.25 paper-free discount. However you have to set this up yourself.

A recent poster who works for BT suggested that the £1.25 discount for paper free billing is being withdrawn for new customers. Existing customers will still apparently get it for the forseeable future.

Seems daft then. Everybody may as well have a paper bill if that's the case.

Well done, went about it exactly the right way. You have to stick to your guns and don't let them plant any doubt in your head about whether your info is right or not, they're slippery little b***ers at BT

They'll probably just remove the option, ie make new customers take paperless billing by default and not get a £1.25 discount for the privilege (and no doubt some point down the line introduce a charge for people who want paper bills) :undecided
  • Quote from BT

"I am sorry to know about the confusion caused regarding the connection charge.

I can confirm that the free connection charge offer has been withdrawn with effect from 02/02/2010 and this is the only reason you are unable to place an order online for connection charge offer.

However, we have introduced an another offer which is valid till 30/06/2010 wherein you just have to pay £29.99 (Inc VAT) for the line activation instead of £127.99 (Inc VAT) and you will be given a 18 months of contract."

    Offer has ended
  • Guess I was lucky.. as soon as I mentioned the £29.99 offer the lady I spoke to knew exactly what i meant (just mentioned the £29.99 connection offer which is running until 30th June on their website).

I didn't argue about the £12.79.. think I'll follow up after getting my first bill saying that wasn't stated on the offer details and should be £11.54.
