  • I just called for this offer and was told that it ended last month, I didnt need it anyway was I am migrating back from Talk Talk.
  • It seems this 'free installation' offer has now ended - anyone still having any luck?
  • GUTTED this has expired :(
Would have tied in nicely with the Sky+HD deal
  • I rang BT today and quoted all of the text in this article and they pretty much laughed at me and said they don't do it any more.

Even though I offered to sign up for an 18 month contract they still wanted £124ish if I just have a line or £50 if I take up broadband also to connect a new line. I told them that they wouldn't be getting my business if they didn't waive the connection fee and they weren't interested.

Apparently if you take up phone, broadband and TV it's a free connection. Of course it is, because they make more money out of you then!

Called BT on Monday to check I qualified for this and was told I did. Called today to get things moving and now being told that the offer was withdrawn on 26 February 2010 and the best they can do is £29.99 spread over 12 months interest free (unless i take digital tv and broadband from them).

Just made an order over the phone and they offer £29.99 installation for a new telephone line. The contract is for 18 months and I took the Unlimited weekend calling plan for £11.54 line rental.

The free line offer is no longer valid but this is the next cheapest installation compared to other providers:

Talktalk £59.99 (18 mths minimum contract)
Primus £69 (18 mths minimum contract)
Plusnet £50 (12 mths minimum contract and must be taken together with broadband)
Post Office £110 (no minimum contract)
  • Have just spoken with sky and if you thought it might be handy to install for sky, think again, i was told that their terms and conditions specify that you must make 10 calls per month through this line or you break these terms!!!

Ordered a new BT line for the ex last night (he is not capable of making phone calls etc, it's not me signing him up for stuff!!)

Took 2 calls - the first one I said that the free line rental had expired but was there anything else and the lad offered £29.99 for 18 months. But their computers were down so he would call me back.

He didn't, so I called again but this time was offered £124.99 cost! Mentioned about the previous offer and the lady told me that was only available if you were moving over from a cable supplier but let us have the deal.

    So, we have:
£29.99 set up - spread over 6 months if paying by direct debit.
    18 month Contract
Must make 10 chargeable calls a month or will be charged £6.50.
Choice of call plan - he took the £11.54 weekend one.

That one comes up like the proverbial bad penny. Where do they dig that nonsense up from?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
