I had a look on the BT Website and it appears that you can sign up online for a new line. It stated the charges were £11.54 per month as expected and it said there were no one-off fees such as a connection charge. The final thing worth noting is the online sign-up states 12 months!!
Whereabouts on the BT website did you read this? A link would be the best way of getting to the information.
  • I believe this is the ordinary way you can apply online but if your line is disconnected it will come up with a connection charge of £124.99. You do need to apply by telephone for the free connection offer.

Ok, in response queries about my post about signing up online.....I went to: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=CON-HOME-PHN-R1

In my sitiuation, there is a working socket but no active line. As you can see below, I have signed up with no one off payment because in my case I don't need an engineer visit, just a line activation. On the site it tells you if your scenario would require an engineer and would therefore incur the one off cost. My order details are below:
    Your order

    • Phone
1 I know where the BT socket is, and it's not damaged
    • 1 No engineer visit or charge
    • 1 Unlimited Weekend Plan
    • 1 BT Privacy at Home
    • 1 BT Answer 1571
    Total

    One-off£0.00 Monthly£11.54

PLUS IT IS ONLY A 12 MONTH CONTRACT

Final thing, I clicked through Quidco because it states £25 for "BT calls & Lines". Not sure if this will track as BT takes a long time to appear on Quidco so can't currently say.

Update: My Quidco tracked at £25.

    Line re-activated next week.

Before people have a go at me, I understand that my scenario was a line activation and not a complete New Line but I believe a lot of people will be in the same situation as me so this was all worth posting.
  • HOW do you do this through quidco please

can you send me a link?

    Thanks

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I saw your post just in time :)

Was about to sign up for the 18month contract with free install, then saw your post. Was a bit fiddly, but i've been confirmed on a 12 month contract, free install and £25 cashback. Thank you!
  • Just thought I would say regards the cashback with BT, although Topcashback advertises the calls only aspect of the order as £12.00 you can submit a ticket to match cashback from other sites (their higher rate of cashback promise).

I have done this and TCP have matched Quidco on £25 for calls only, which works out better as you dont have to pay the £5.00 a year admin fee.

Just thought I would share :p
  • just called and got told the offer stopped running on Sunday
  • Lummer this is true, but you maybe able to get free connection anyway via the website if your line just needs reactivating and not a new install, if you follow....
