BUT amazingly I had no problems whatsoever.
Lets hope I can get a decent deal with Sky nowTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi. In ref to previous some previous posts/Q&A's;
I previously posted a question about the best/cheapest way to get my mum's BT main line box moved to a better location in "Advice on moving main BT telephone socket".
We are now wondering if there could be a way to use the BT free installation deal to sort the problem as my mum would be happy to take the BT deal and have a contract as per the terms offered if she could have the box moved to an accessible/practical location.
Thanks
Very, very much doubt it,Openreach who do the work will close the job off useing close codes which match what work was done, then they'll bill BT who'll bill you.
If the's an active,or recently cut off line, the engineer wont come to your home as checks are done on the line remotely in the exchange.0 -
Anyone know how you can automate the 10 calls per month requirement, either by a computer on the broadband linked to the line or by callintg from another number?
There are times when I will be unable to access the phone to make 10 calls a month over the 18 month contract.
Anyone any ideas how I can get round this problem?0 -

You have to specify when you place the order with BT Retail that it is to be a new line and not to use existing cables. The BT advisor will change the provide flag on the order to "no existing cables" so Openreach will know a new line is needed and not just go by old records.0 -
If you're thinking of jumping ship to Sky before the 18 months is up, you'll have to pay BT for breaching the contract.
No, not jumping ship, if I did that now they just wouldn't connect my new home. I'm moving house so going through my list of things that need moving and trying to get them all as cheap as possible. I've saved over £300 so far, I'm impressed0 -
Thought I would tell my story as well - managed to get this 'free connection' offer finally sorted out, but I must admit it involved a lot of conversations on the phone and I was passed from one dept to another and had to call back several times to get different adviser.
The first one said its only available with their BB and TV, I politely informed him its a BS, but he didn't believe. So I spelled URL to the BT site with offer to him and then he trusted me (what a ridiculous situation I must admit), but still was unwilling to give me the offer.
All sorted now though..0 -
I was wondering if anybody here can answer my question as BT were ok but not exactly chatty!
We're moving to a new build at the start of March and would like to use the free install offer. I called BT and the offer is running til the 20th? I could be wrong though as I'm not sure if I was getting the accent!
I asked if we could order then and have it installed after we move in. She said that would be ok if we had a definite date. Not sure how far away this date could be though.
Anyway I'd like to order online and get cashback too. Can anyone shed any light on the ordering process - will I be able to select a suitable date online?
If anyone can help I would be most grateful!
Thanks

I phoned this week to get a BT line installed in my new flat and the offer code worked. The customer services lady knew what it was straight away.
My sister phoned a couple of days later and also got the deal. Thank you Money Saving Expert!0 -
I'm moving into a house that has a BT line but the previous owner has taken their number with them. So I effectively need a "New Line" service and could have been liable for the Connection Fee.
Someone posted that they had signed up online. I had a look on the BT Website and it appears that you can sign up online for a new line. It stated the charges were £11.54 per month as expected and it said there were no one-off fees such as a connection charge. The final thing worth noting is the online sign-up states 12 months!!
On top of this there was £25 Quidco for BT Calls and Lines. Not sure if this applies but food for thought.
Has anyone else spotted this? More importantly has anyone signed up for it because I'm planning on doing so today.0 -
Can I ask, do you pay the monthly charges from the date of installation, or from the date that you agree to have the phone installed?
