Is this BT offer available to new build houses?
I’m about to move into my new house this week, there is a master socket and phone cable installed that comes out of the wall and is tied up outside in a roll. So no actual connection from the house to the pole outside.
The house is in an established street with terrace houses on the opposite side.
I’m not willing pay £120 for a phone line just to get broadband, I would rather go onto a USB Broadband dongle.
Also If I order now and they can’t fit till after New Year does that I mean I can still have it for free.
I just want to get my answers right before I call the BT bods and get fobbed off.
Im not a fan of BT as in the past I could never quite work out what they were charging me for! As I dont have a phone line what other choices do I have?0 -

Me and the wife moved house yesterday and we are looking to get the cheapest possible standalone phone line. My idea was to get the line reconnected and switch.
I have called BT and they tell me that for new connections, I have to take a 12 month line rental contact with them. I told the woman that I was after the basic package with just the £11.25 line rental but she insisted that the 12 contract applies.
Is this anyone elses experience?0 -
Yes. BT changed their T&Cs after other providers (TT in particular) encouraged people to get BT to connect a line and then jump ship immediately.
Your have to laugh though - TT now have TV adverts on which the small print insists on an 18 month contract!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

That is a shame for the consumer, though completely understandable from a commercial position. An extra £1.75 per month it is then...
It is pretty rubbish though that BT seem to have a monopoly on the whole reconnection market.* In mine (and most peoples) situation, there is an existing line with number at the property. Surely it should be a matter of switching account just as one would with other utilities? A little move levelling of the playing field required in this market me thinks.
(*I am assuming that I can't go straight to the cheapest provider and start a contract with them?)0 -

rang BT today and got a line setup, 18month contract, £12.50 a month (will reduce to £11.25 once i established paperless billing), no installation fee.
cheers0 -
I got my deal as well, only that stupid openreach didn't turn up on Wed, now I have to wait till 30 Dec for them to come round. I basically yelled at 4 people at BT for wasting my time which wasn't really their fault. Shame they wouldn't put my through to openreach. I am still very annoyed!!!0

okay I've read all this BT topic.
I've recently moved to a new flat, and I need a phone line installed,MY ONLY USE OF THE PHONE LINE WOULD BE BROADBAND,as sadly Virgin Media (which I was with them before and very happy with them; does not cover this area).so if I get this FREE INSTALLATION OFFER from BT,and not make those 10 calls per month what will happen?
I have free call to landlines and O2 numbers from my O2 mobile phone so I don't really need to use landline at all,and I was just wondering how much would I be charged if I don't make those 10 necessary calls from BT??
I've researched during the past week and I'm even more confused now,as money is tight and I desperately require (Unlimited) broadband access..my options are either TalkTalk's phone & broadband (unlimited) which is around £26 per month + Free installation..or BT (around £12 a month line rental) + O2 broadband (£7)..
now the problem with talktalk is I've heared it takes ages (months) for them to install a new line.
can you people advice me which one is better value? I need to have more information on that 10 mandatory calls per month, which numbers count as eligible and how much would I be charged if either I make those 10 calls or not!??
many thanks!:A0 -
