You could well be charged the full connection fee if engineering work is required if you have agreed to a normal connection 12 month contract, and not the 18 month contract free connection offer.;)

OK !!!! So you you should get free connection as you have taken the free connection offer. BT will quote the full price and then give you a credit on your bill.
"Discounts will be by bill credit and will be shown on your bill. "

i am moving house this week and didn't want to pay the connection charge that iwas told by BT that I MUST pay. i rang once and was told that the offer had expired !
i then rang today on the above number ( and am still on hold) and said i wanted some details of the current offer for a free connection. lady explained it all to me (same as all the other posts on here 18 month contract etc) she then put me thru to someone else as she couldn't process home moves (?) the next guy then tried to tell me i had to pay the connection fee. i educated him otherwise. he said he'll look into it.....i'm still on hold. will update when i come off hold !! may be a while tho !!:eek:0 -
Right, came off phone earlier with bt. (31 mins 13 secs !) but its all sorted. moving home - current line to be terminated on day of move. new line in new home on 8th by engineer. NO connection fee. fee will show on first bill but will also be re-credited on same bill (they have to do it this way for some reason) just make sure you check your bill ! they did mention the fee a few times but i kept telling them that it should be free in line with their offer - no probs after that.
my advice is - if you get a rogue/lazy operator hang up and ring again. the offer is still on and they therefore should let you have it.:T
i hope this helps anyone else who is moving home. now just need to sort out sky.... any ideas??? LOL0 -
Rang BT today and followed the instructions in the original article.
They waived the line installation charge against a basic 18 month contract.0 -
I've had this offer for a small while now. They are taking a lot more money than they should be considering I hardly use the damn thing, I don't even have caller display and wish I had never got the damn offer now.0

What are you being charged extra for then?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
BT phoned me today and offered me free conection and phone and broadband service for £24 a month for 3 months and then it goes up to thirty something after the three months, does this sound like a good offer, she is phoning back tomorow after i have spoke to my "partner"0

Plus.net are offering the new line install for £49.99 and going via Quidco you can claim back £38 (though not guaranteed) so effectively paying £11.99 for a new line install.
Compared to BT its a 12 months contract and pay $16.94 for broadband + evening & weekend calls + free international minutes + Includes Line rental. Similar plan on BT minus international minutes and broadband is £14.20 so you do pay an extra £2.74 per month to Plus.net for broadband and international minutes. Whilst on BT you would need to get broadband and cheapest one around is £6 (see cheap broadband section on MSE) which brings the cost of BT to be £3.26 per month more expensive than Plus.net even with the free install (still no free international minutes) and you locked in for 18 months.
Talk Talk via Simplify Digital cashback was a better option but that deal finished end of November so Plus.net is a better way to go currently0
