  • Hi, new poster to MSE here - am moving into a flat that already has a physical line, but it hasn't been used for 18 months so needs reconnection.

Just told by a scally in the 150 call centre that the free connection offer "only applies if you're taking the line, broadband and Vision package for £42 a month, and you have to pay a £45+vat fee for the Vision box". Great offer there!

I imagine this is rubbish and that the BT peeps here can actually sort this out? Please?

Thanks in advance - and is it OK to PM you my details?

Welcome to the MSE forums junkoid.

Yes, whoever you spoke to was talking rubbish (it makes you wonder whether they are on commission but I don't think they are).

Anyway, call 0800 100 444 and ask for the Customer Options Team.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thanks Heinz, I'll do that! I already PM'd the BT rep here too, but no reply yet - I imagine they're fairly busy dealing with narked customers like me ;)

Out of interest the guy I spoke to was in a UK call centre as far as I could tell (don't know whether the overseas centres have staff with thick Liverpudlian accents) and I got the impression he just wanted me off the phone - kept telling me how expensive the deal I'd phoned up for really was, and how I should go use the website to place a normal order. Very, very odd behaviour for someone on a sales team. The BT centres seem to be a bit out of control...

  • Righto, so you have to fire out 10 calls a month. Any calls to anyone for any length?

Haven't had a landline for 6yrs but moved to a non-cabled area so needing it for ADSL. What's the gen on doing this as cheaply as possible? What are BT charging these days for connection per call and if going for the £11.25 package, the call charges?

ie, what are we looking at for making these 10 calls each month and is this deal worth it?? Can I just make 10 calls in one day and job done??

    BF.

The 10 calls can be inclusive calls - so cost nothing.

    Hi All,

I'm interested in this offer, am I right in thinking I can order but then also broadband at the same time?
  • My son has just taken over the upstairs of his grandmothers house and has put broadband onto the existing line. Unfortunately she now cannot hear the phone properly as it distorts the line. The existing line can be seen on the outside of the house but doesn't appear unil it gets way into the hall and 3 phones plus her aid call emergency sytem runs off it. There doesn't seem to be a main point of entry box on the interior wall adjacent to the box. If I call BT in it'll cost a fortune which neither he or she has!
Does anyone know if he can have a new line (in his name) put into the house to use for the broadband under this deal?

Your son may just need ADSL microfilters (should be under a fiver each) for everything connected to the phone line. However, you'll need to check that the emergency call system can run on a line with broadband on it.

If you do need a new line, this offer is advertised as for 2nd lines (as well as the only line in a property). It will be cheaper if you can avoid installing a 2nd line for broadband only, though.
  • Thanks for this Guys. I tried the ASDL filters but it hasn't made any difference, although I only tried one and maybe I need one for each appliance. It would be good if I didn't have to get another line in. Trouble is I am not convinced that the hall box is the first into the house and I have searched high and low for it, looks asthough a previous occupant has been playing around with it!

Yes - you do. Get two, try one on the broadband and one on a phone, disconnect everything else (only for a couple of minutes - and obviously reconnect the emergency call device ASAP!) See if the phone is OK then.
