ok i think i got it. Martins post is a bit vague. You can have unlimited weekend but not unlimited evening and weekend.
Also you need 10 chargeable calls a month. These chargeable calls need to be extra and not part of the weekend unlimited or included. ?????????????????

The deal is with direct debit so why do you need a debit/credit card ??
No, the 10 calls can be inclusive calls (i.e. free).

However, you do need to make ONE chargeable call per month in order to retain the inclusive calls element of the Unlimited Weekend Plan.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Is it possible to take advantage of the free connection offer from BT and get the unlimited evenings and weekends call package for £11.25 per month? Just saw on the BT site that on a 12 month contract the evening and weekend call package is £0 per month and was wondering if this applied to the free connection 18 month contract too?
    Regards, Robin.

Nowhere can I see any posts from the BT rep or any links to any official BT webpage, where it confirms that installation of a second line is free. Could someone please clarify this point for me please?

See the link in post 381 above.

Bear in mind that has conditions attached - primarily an 18 month contract and making 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month for each of those 18 months.

As I refer to in the title we are moving into a rented house and the previous tenant had BT and the phone has a dialtone so I am assuming the line can just be reactivated (Won't dial out but I can do a 17070 to find the number)... as it says on the website

"Connecting a new BT line costs £122.50 (incl. VAT). This charge only applies in some cases, but before we can confirm this we need to check your property. Most of our new customers find they don't need to pay this charge.
If your home has had a telephone service from BT in the recent past, and the wiring and socket is undamaged and the line still has dialling tone, it's likely you won't need to pay this charge. But where there's no suitable BT line available in your property, no dialling tone on the line, or if you have been disconnected for non-payment in the past, the standard connection charge will apply."

Ive started an order for a new line - to reactivate this line - and Im waiting for the "Survey" - but rang the Home Movers Department to see whats involved in moving my number over (seems Ive done this the wrong way round) but the BT Rep has a quick look at the system and says I will need to pay the 122.50 after all  - Something to do with the length of time (can only be a matter of months) since deactivation (or whatever state its in) How can this be? I seem to have the classic "no charge" situation above - Is there a chance he may be wrong and the Survey comes back ok? - I don't want to sign up for the 18 months free connection deal with all its catches - I was hoping for a bog standard 12 month deal Help!!
  • Just wanted to provide an update on the situation with the regards to transferring to BT Basic incase there are others in a similar situation.

I must say BT have surprised me this time, pleasantly I might add. As much as I was dissapointed with the customer service I recieved from BT Basic while attempting to transfer to BT Basic, I am delighted with the BT reps on this forum who appear to be provinding a great customer service and I would like to thank Conan/Fionnuala and any other BT Rep involved in my case, your help in resolving my issue is much appreciated. Not only did Fionnuala put a note on the system but even called me and explained everything and then transferred me to BT Basic after explaining the situation who then took my order to transfer to BT Basic without me having to explain the whole thing again, you are a star Fionnuala :T, you saved me having to explain everythinfg all over again, if only all customer service people were like this.

Anyway I'm not holding my breath to recieve the BT Basic application form quickly though based on what others have said regarding this, weeks and weeks(in some cases months) of waiting but you never know I might be surprised again
