You must agree to an 18 month contract and have your calls with BT as you must make 10 calls per month.

You dont have to your calls solely with BT .

You can CPS your calls to another supplier,as long as they still allow you to use the 1280 override facilty so you can place 10 calls via BT to qualify.

You can also use indirect access codes like www.18185.co.uk for cheaper calls where appropriate.
  • Hi

    Ok. Good things and bad.

The good is that after my post on here a few weeks ago and a PM to the BT rep, I had a phone call the same day and the BT rep sorted everything out. I have now had the line installed.

The bad is that the guy doing the installation didn't listen to where I wanted the new socket to be and put it where he thought I wanted it.

When I asked him why, he said "oh I didn't really understand what you wanted so put it where I thought"...

He then moved the socket, so now I have 4 holes in my outside wall on a wall previously untouched, and because he had already cut the wire, I now have an ugly grey junction box on the outside of my house, where he had to join the line.

He also used no coverage for my carpet so I now have brick dust engrained into my wool carpet (which never comes out) and in more places than necessary due the incorrect placement of the 1st holes he drilled.

I've had my dad round to look, and he agrees with me that BT need to come out and have a look at the mess that has been caused.

It's a shame as the guy was pleasant and polite, put covers on his shoes, and we're really pleased with the line, I just wish it was 1 line with no junction box and there were no extra holes in my wall or brick dust in my carpet.

Why am I posting this here? So you can make sure your new socket goes where you want it and not where the BT engineer thinks it should go.
  • Hi BT Rep

Having spent the last hour composing my complaint, the complaint was so long I've had to split it into 2 so it doesn't exceed the character count allowed and now having sent you part 1 of my PM, your box is full and I can't send you part 2.

Are there really that many complaints?

Please can you email to the email address on part 1 or phone me on the number on part 1 once you have cleared your pm box and I can send you part 2.

    Many thanks.

Right I work in customer options I should be able to clear this up a little... just call in and ask for the 18 month contract to get free connection. Almost all customer's are eligible not just cable customers (as it is not fair to separate who is eligible and who is not). There are some rules with the connection offer which do exclude some customers from getting the deal as listed below:

You have to make 10 chargable or inclusive (ie free) calls per month (or 30 a quarter depending on how you are billed) though BT. If you are setting up BB with another provider on the line they most likely will add a call plan on the line stopping you making calls through BT.

If you are unable to make the calls through BT in a month you are charged an extra £6.80 per month... or £20.40 per quarter (depending on whether your billed monthly or quarterly.

You will only get unlimited weekend calls for the basic line rental, not evening and weekend as that is a separate offer.

    regards.

That's a bit of an exaggeration.

Some BB providers may offer you (try to 'sell' might be a better description) a CPS voice telephony calls package in addition. Most of those are standard CPS (Carrier PreSelect) packages and, therefore, using the 1280 prefix will override the default calls carrier (the BB company if you've taken their offer) and allow calls (e.g. the 'free' calls you need to make) to be made via BT.

Some (e.g. AOL) provide that voice calls package via BT's WCLI and the 1280 prefix does not work thereon.

As always, the advice is to check what is being offered before signing up.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I signed up to this last night and all progressed fine however I was told that it was minimum of 12 month contract not 18 and that I did not have to make a minimum number of calls in a chargable period. Could a BT rep please clarify the situation. I dont want a bill later on for the connection fee when I clearly stated the "New free line connection" offer numerous times in the call.

On the side hello MSE. New user here but hope to use the forums and contribute if I can.

    Thanks

  • Hi BT Rep

Is it possible you can read the posts properly and answer / solve my issues?

The response you have sent me is inadequate and doesn't answer my questions and certainly doesn't solve my issues.

I am posting on here as well as PM in an attempt to get a response that is helpful.

    In anticipation...

Hi G. The connection offer is for a minimum 18 month term and to qualify for this offer you must have both their line and calls through BT and make 10 chargeable or inclusive calls calls per month (30 per quarter) with BT or you will be charged a £6.80 per month, £20.40 per quarter on their bill. This charge will appear in the One off charges section of the customers bill. If you want me to check your order, please PM your order number or Telephone number. Thanks

Ypaymore - no - looks like Cocki222's post has been deleted - the BT rep also replied to it, meaning that I haven't gone mad and it was definately there!
