If you don't have anybody to call, the workaround I have suggested before is to make a list of 10 takeaways and call them each month. When they answer, just apologise for dialling a wrong number. Ten seconds per call on the first of the month and the job's done in less than 2 minutes.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I don't see why. You could simply comply with the 10 calls per month requirement using your free calls allowance (i.e. free).

Dont fancy ringing 10 takeaways each month mate, i might order something ! seriously though i can be away from home for a month or 2 at a time plus i dont actually have a landline phone as i dont use them , just my trusted mobile, although this situation could change hence why i like the freedom of a 1 month contract0 -

l-cooper9 - no, it'll show up as a charge and a discount on your first bill after you've set up the direct debit.0

Hi Laura
Yes as almillar has rightly said on your first bill you will see a charge for the installation and you will also see a credit for the same amount to cancel it out.

I wonder if the BT Representitive on this forum is up for sorting out another mess. We are attempting to get a new line / reconnection. There was a working line in the farmhouse in 1976 when my OH's grandfather died. The house has lain empty since an is currently undergoing renovation (we hope to move before Xmas - don't ask which). At some point the phone was disconnected. However as my OH works the farmland around the house we require a phone, so we asked for the free line connection and got "accepted". There has been a series of delays firstly becasue there was a line fault, 2ndly because traffic lights were needed. I actually spoke to the blokes from Openreach who were laying the line and they said that there was a fault on the cable and it was unable to support an extra line. So Openreach have already layed out a whole shed load of money. At some point another BT bloke appears with a little white box and says "well I can fit the box but can't connect you as there's no cable to connect you to". "The span from that pole is too long and there's no cable to it anyway and it looks like the pole's too old/knackered". No sh*t Sherlock, I've wasted plenty of time speaking to various BT "Delhi/Calcutta" operatives each time explaining the situation over and over again, trying to impress uopn that that I'm not daft and know that when they say "yes Mr* R*** you will definitely be connected on that date" that it's not that simple and no I probably won't be. Anyway BT man with white box made a call to his boss and explained the situation. There has been a few phonecalls now from Openreach who are now saying that it's going to cost us money to get our line in. Really! what ever happened to the "free" part of the offer? I see from others posts that it's subject to survey. Where does it say that? I couldn't see that on BT's site via Martin's link. Nor did the operative I spoke to when I first called BT to take advantage of the offer, and was "accepted". Obivously BT have quite late on in the whole process found out that there's quite a lot of work to be done to get a line to us and have belatedly called in a surveyer, who incidently arrived/inspected without calling us first, so guess what we weren't around. This is our farmland were talking of, something my OH knows a lot about having worked there for ever and knows the lay of the land ie every square inch. It would have been very useful to be there to dicsuss the options and the no no's. I ended up speaking to the surveyer on the phone and tried to explain that some of his ideas weren't really on because of the access required and the ground conditions. I was offered an option of a way of doing it that made it cheaper. "Cheaper" I said, "I've signed up to a free deal". "Well that's a matter between you and your phone provider", he said. "That's you" I said.
Anyway, apparently wayleave is required, which fortunately my OH is able to give. It's in the post.
I still do not accept that we have to pay anything especially as we weren't made aware of it at the outset, also Openreach have already done a lot of work, and we've not received any indication of cost. I hope they are not going to try and bill us for work already done? Another BT rep I called (after the you've got to pay shock from the surveyer) said "it's subject to conditions" and if you haven't signed anything agreeing to pay then you won't be charged. I'm confused.
My only consolation is that if BT refuse to install a free line then it's cost them a fortune already. If we're asked to pay we'll probably cancel the order and rely on mobiles, not ideal but probably a whole load cheaper. Judging by the quote of £12K+ in a previous post, that would pay for quite a few years mobile use.
Rant over.

ok i think i got it. Martins post is a bit vague. You can have unlimited weekend but not unlimited evening and weekend.
Also you need 10 chargeable calls a month. These chargeable calls need to be extra and not part of the weekend unlimited or included. ?????????????????
The deal is with direct debit so why do you need a debit/credit card ??0 -
