Wedding list - no obligation, however ...

  • I think the problem is nowadays - what ever you do you are in the wrong or offend someone. We didn't mention anything in our invites (so as not to offend anyone). We didn't do a wedding list (so as not to offend anyone who thinks we are being grabby). We didn't ask for money (so as not to offend the people who don't like being asked for cash).

The result? I got called selfish for leaving people to decide. You can't please everyone so do whatever you think is best.

I have since done a wedding list to please the people who asked me to do one. No-one has bought anything off it (and I made a point of it being at Argos with cheap stuff on!)

We've recently received an invitation from a couple who have lived together for several years and have enough income to buy what they want for their home.

They have not enclosed anything about gifts, but a bit nearer the date we will ask if they have anything specific in mind, or which store they would like gift vouchers for.
  • It's my wedding in 10 days, we did no lists, and don't want/expect gifts from anyone, People keep asking, but i just tell them that just having people i care about there on the big day is enough for me!
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

OP, glad you decided against putting a text about gifs/cash.

This thread proves that there are pro's and cons to both sides of this, and I'm glad I asked the question; if only for other peoples opinions.

On reflection though, we have decided that we would be more comfortable with nothing in the invite. If family and friends want to buy us something, they will ask. We want people there to celebrate with us on our big day, thats the important thing :D

From the sound of other replies on this thread, you'll still get all-sorts of stuff ;)

You'll have to let us know what was bought for you, even though you have specified no presents

  • Yes you will (even if a couple said no pressies to me, I'd still get them one!), but you might find that you get some intresting and cool ones :D

    Photo frames!

Went to a friends wedding last year, and gave her money (as she hadnt made a list but explained vouchers / cash would be gratefully recieved) plus a small frame as a joke (we always joked everyone gives frames at weddings).

She had over 50!!! by the time all the gifts came in. And nearly all of them had a line similar to : 'we thought you may have a special photo of your day to put in this'

I am a photographer and am dreading getting photo frames as pressies! My friends keep threatening to get me them all the time. Dont get me wrong I like photo frames but I have a feeling I could be getting a few on the day!

I dunno, I'd rather have frames, than what my fella's mate is offering to buy us he says 'you can never have too many toasters' I already have a toaster...and a house, and 3 kids, and another on the way.... I can't ask for contraception, or a larger house! so i've asked for nothing LOL
