  • Hi Hypno,

No I haven't yet but will have a look later.

I still need to buy mince from Tesco's for the month too so will set myself a challenge to spend no more than £350 this month and try and reduce it from there the month after.

I set myself a generous budget of £400 for 5 of us for the first month. (all my grocery budgets include cleaning/toiletries etc, so not just food). Then the second month I reduced the target to £375, then down to £350 etc, so that I did it gradually rather than going "cold turkey". It also meant that I was more likely to succeed than having a budget of say £250 for the month (which is what I *thought* I was spending ), then exceeding it, feeling a failure, and spending double on the basis "oh well, I've failed, a bit more won't make any difference!".....

So, set a realistic budget, and whittle it down month on month - in 6 months time you will have reached the "optimum" level of spending which I bet is significantly different to the amount you currently spend!

So it’s Monday once again and count down to DD’s birthday and her party

DH had a message relayed to him via his sister from his other sister that they want the cot and highchair back as their daughter may need it, for those who’ve not read my previous diaries, their daughter is DH’s niece and the wife of my brother to whom I have not spoken to since they got married November last year due to being accused of something not my fault…long story and not one I’m going to go in to as it bring up bad memories. So it looks like I may be an Auntie shortly.

Anyway moving on to this week and indeed today.

As DD’s birthday and party is on Saturday I need to get this house in to some sort of order as at the moment I am frankly embarrassed by it. My main priority this week is to get on top of the ironing and get rid of it (it's in bold so I don't forget :rotfl:)

    So plan for today:
    • Bank – deposit change counted up last week - Done
    • Post office to post two letters - Done spent £1.73
    • Wash up - Done
    • Fill car up - Done £42 spent
    • Sort washing and put away - Done
    • Change kids beds and wash covers - Stripped and in washer, just got to make up - Beds now done
    • Iron 10 items of clothing - Next to be done - One basket full done and another to be done, I got carried away
    • Clean bathroom - Not done
    • Sort toys out in DS bedroom - Not done
    Plan for this week:
    • NSD’s as much as possible
    • SiL’s Wednesday so NSD that day
    • Complete and put away ironing and other non-iron things
    • Throw broken and incomplete toys away
    • Meal plan
Going to be a very busy week this week but will try to update as I go along.

    Have a good day everyone.

Oooh two lists - I like!

If it's any consolation I'm embarrassed by my house on a daily basis - I've gotten past caring whilst baby's still little :D

  • Shaun – Glad the cold stayed away; hope it’s found someone else to go bother.
Jo – Glad to know that I am not alone on this. We did sort of give up for a long time whilst the kids were small but now they’re getting bigger, we don’t have any excuse now.

So on to confession time, besides doing the bits and pieces that I put on my list I did two other things; I went to Boots and Tesco’s for the meat for the month.

Boots – I spent £14.95 of which £2.49 was out of my weekly spends as I bought deodorant.

Tesco’s – I spent £25.54 this is part of the grocery bill but I think it may last us next month too, so probably cost effective. I did treat DH and me and bought some cheap steak, we have some veg to use up so thought it would make a nice change to something monotonous.

Off to do some more housework, I will try and log on later and see what everyone else is up to.

That'salong list to get done.I'm embarrassed by my house as well and I don't even have little kids anymore...I'm just lazy!!!
Not even started my lists todaymust get on I guess.Catch you later.
  • Boy this housework stuff is tiring :) I have just finished the washing and that is now drying in the sunshine, should be ready to iron tomorrow.

The good news is that I haven't spent anything else today.

Tomorrow is playgroup day and the kids and I are walking there as it's not all that far away.

DH rang earlier to say that he'll be finishing early on Friday but the bad news is that he has to supervise testing on site at 4am, they do it over night so that work can maintain on site during the day as it's a big job, he's got the last shift and the other managers are each doing some. Poor thing will have to be up at 3am to drive over to London in time.
