Happy mid week to everyone, one step closer to weekend. Sorry that I’ve not updated this week but I’m having one of those where’s the money going moments and have been trying to work out the finances :o

On the upside DD’s birthday party went well and she really enjoyed herself.

So confession time, I have mentioned in my diary that we have a credit card; this is with Virgin and is currently on 0% until May 2010. When DH get’s his expenses through this is paid off the c.c, DH normally gets £260. The balance on that is £11,510.51

So reality check time, including the family loan we owe: £13,425.67, I have set it up so that I can check the balance online instead of waiting every month for the statement to arrive. DH spends on this every month as he normally gets his travel via this amongst a few other things. Once the 0% deal runs out next year I’m going to get DH to transfer it over to a new card.

On the upside DH had a letter from Egg to say that if he doesn’t use his card that he holds from them by the 12th September they will close the account and cancel his card :D he has not yet read the letter despite it being in view for the past week or so, this will conveniently be lost amongst all the other paperwork to be sorted. Bad wifey I know.

So my plan for the next few months (I know yet another one to add to my list) is to attack the Virgin card. I plan to save up the extra savings from the shopping and once a month I will add that to the card as an overpayment.

I am part of the weekly spends challenge and I think that if I have anything left at the end of the week, I will put that in another pot and pay that off the family loan thus reducing that quick time and getting rid of horrible SiL at the same time.

I needed a new focus and a new challenge and now I’ve put it in black and white I’ve not got any excuse.

Forgot to mention, I bagged up £20 worth of £2 coins and these have been paid into the bank.

Oooh I like a new challenge, good for you! I have a card with Virgin as well but have now transferred the majority of the balance to another card with a lower rate (I fell foul of the 'forget to set up my DD' situation and lost my 0% rate :o) but I have to say their online accounts facility is really good and easy to navigate, the summary page is really helpful and concise I've found.

Idea with the weekly spends challenge sounds good (might check that one out myself) and of course it will add add up over the weeks.

Any plans for today in particular? x

  • Hi Jo - Nothing planned as such for today. I've been to Tesco's with some money saved up over the past few weeks. The kids got a magazine each and I got some soy sauce and some picalilli. I've not done a shopping order this week as there's not much we need, DH may need some wine towards the end of the week but that's all.

I have of course got lovely housework to do...some one stop me with all this excitement!

I've not used the car for two days either, we've walked everywhere and will be walking tomorrow when we go to playgroup.

Good walking - we've also been doing that with car broken, it's actually lovely to get out when the weather's not too bad and go walking to places with DDs, I always find we have lovely chats and it really is quality time that you wouldn't have otherwise.

I'm just doing housework too (well having a little break!) as baby still asleep and DDs at my parents so been whizzing round.

Another day is upon us and one step closer to weekend. DH has his last operation next week so I’m counting down to that now.

I have been wondering what to do with the £2 coins that I have been saving and I am after a storage unit for the conservatory to house the kids toys and get them out of the lounge/dining room. This is the one: http://www.toytidy.com/shop/31003/cubby-play-store-x-12/details total cost including nice doors is £340.12, so that is my aim. I have nicked Hypno’s squares idea and for every £40 of £2 coins I’ve saved I will colour in a square.

NSD for me today, the kids and I are going to playgroup and we are walking again so we aren’t even using the car.

Shopping has been ordered £53.27 and I made a saving of £2.38 so this has been squirreled away into the savings, I wasn’t going to bother but we do need some stuff and I am aiming to get away without ordering next week.

    Plan for today:
    • Playgroup - Done
    • Wash up
    • Sort washing out and put away - Put racks outside as clothes still damp
    • Sort dinner out
Have a good day everyone and I’ll update later.

  • Morning Shaun - That's a good question, I'm not sure. Will e-mail them later and ask. I know that it is flat packed but looking at the image it doesn't look like it is made out of anything flimsy.
