How are you today??
I met up with some friends today, who have children, boy does it make me broo-ooooo-oooooo-ooooo-dy.
Have not confided in them about financials, feel like a failure or lesser person for admitting how much money I owe. Debt remains a big secret. Hard to not tell them why I know its never a good time to have a baby, they have no idea, why now would be a quadrupley bad time. We could end up bankrupt if we had a family now......
Sure that you and I are not the only ones in this boat.
Hope you are ok.
Hey GG......
I love the 'broo-ooooo-oooooo-ooooo-dy' :rotfl:Know what you mean about the debts, not too many people know about mine either but they do know that I am struggling and my closest buddies are great at getting the vouchers for lunches/dinners etc. One has even been giving me some tips...bless her.
I'm the same as you, will wait until the debt has gone down. I think it would just cause financial disaster if it happened now.....still doesn't stop the broodiness right now though!!! Might have to borrow my nephew for a weekend, he's 8mths and soooooooooooooooooooo lovely.

Hi Karen
Before you splash out over £100 on new glasses, it may be worth giving one of the online vendors a whirl. I don't know what your style is (hint, try some on in a shop and then either match the same make online or look at the size numbers on the frame and match these).
If you're just after cheapness then you could do worse than go for these for £14.70 (inc. p&p)

It's also worth checking out the following sites:

selectspecs.com
glassescomplete.co.uk
We've used online vendors before very successfully. The other thing you can do is buy frames cheaply off eBay and then get them re-glazed - I know a good place in Essex that does this while you wait for about £30. I can let anyone have the details if they're interested.0 -
Hi Karen - have a great day - and we will look forward to hearing from you again later! I bet your commute yesterday made you really appreciate the opportunity to work from home. It was probably nice to have the social contact tho?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

It certainly did SH..... I was sat on the train home just thinking that I could never go back to doing it 5 days a week, I worked out it's a good 25-30 hours of my week travelling  Sometimes more when I was working overtime at the weekends.....gosh!. You're right though it was nice for the social contact and a couple of us girlies went out for a few drinks after in the sunshine0 -
Afternoon lovelies,
Hope everyone is well and having fab Fridays
I've had an eventful day to say the least, lots of work wise but also as working from home I have managed to have a nice chat with OH and we've come up with some joint plans/aims to spur us both on towards our future. It's been a nice day all in all.
So little update as to where I am as of 24.04.09- Joint savings towards house etc = £250.00
- Debt free savings = £20.00
- Christmas 2009 savings = £10.00
- Misc/other stuff savings = £10.00
- Online scratch card balances together = £25.00
Shorter version of talk with OH. We've set ourselves the challange to jointly save £50K for our house deposit. Not sure if I mentioned before that OH does have the majority of this already (figure to be confirmed) but he will have to get the mortgage on his own (due to my dmp) and thereore the bigger deposit the better. We have set our goal as next summer, giving us some time and allows me to work from home here that little bit longer to really reap the benefits.
I'm really happy as it's been something on my mind for a while but now we have a joint goal it'll make things easier as it's always been one sided in that I knew we were going to do it and I wanted to work towards a goal whereas he was just, yep we'll sort it. Easier for him as he has the money sat there waiting. Anyhow, we're going to go for it and it's going to be fun. I am going to keep a total of the monies I put towards it from now on as a bit of a motivation tactic on my part!
I've spoken to payplan with regards to my possible working from home on perm basis and she said for now to not change payments as visits up to London too sporadic to remove travel costs and I could find myself not meeting payments etc if I have a basic wage. This suits me just fine and dandy as means I can use any money I would have spent on travelling towards savings.
Now on to savings - I have a plan of action to save for the following;
House - jointly with OH.
Debt payments/settlement - my aim is to save enough to settle as many as possible and then reassess situation.
Christmas 2009 - I want to save enough to pay for christmas without touching my december pay packet.
Misc - this is for those rainy days/emergencys that come up.
Ummmmmm, I am sure there is more to tell but I have forgotten.....oops
I'm sure anyone reading this is bored now so will stop for a bit and pop back later.

Sounds like you are superorganised Karen! On the scratchcard winnings withdraw as soon as you reach the limit in case they decide to close down your account - they may otherwise at their discretion withhold the money. Thanks for that SH - wouldn't want that. Will get on to it tonight, had a couple of £1 wins and a £5 win on them which has brought to withdrawl balance :T .....think this will go towards debt savings0
