How can we persuade employers NOT to use imigrant workers?

? Even today there was a warning from somebody in the Labour party about the gains being made by the BNP, and from all accounts it appears that "ordinary" voters are voting for them, not "thugs" as somebody mentioned earlier.
You mean Thickies not Thuggies'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

So they are either "thickies" or "thugs", if that was the case the BNP would win the next general election by a landslide, whereas, as far as i am concerned, it is those people who have kept the labour party in power for such a long time.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0 -

The UK population is changing so that the proportion of dependants to workers is rising. It doesn't matter how much people save the amount of actual output we will all have to live off depends on how many workers there are. What would people rather have, care for the elderly provided by immigrants at affordable prices or care at prices necessary for British workers to be willing to do the work which will be too expensive for most?I think....0

This is a very thorny issue. Unchecked immigration (especially the economic kind) has put untold strains on British society with many empluers simply going for the cheapest option in employing cheap immigrants rather than British workers,
This has led to many British people losing their jobs and has caused huge social unrest in places like Oldham, Burnley, Manchester etc.
How can we dis-incentivise employers from taking the cheap and easy option of foreign workers?
We paid our Polish workers the same as the British. They were great workers and would take them back in a minute. They left a very good job, were in earlier than the British, did not complain and were very keen. Their work was price work with the more they done, the more they earned. No complaints with them at all.0 -
Our Housing association had opposite problem, took on polish/ukraine teams for large contract. complete and utter disaster, arrived late, left early and caused so much structural damage that the the works project is now six months behind schedule. HA now has nightmare of trying to take on new contactors (we tenants have asked for local workers that were laid off from local firms- including my son in law who contrary to myth did not earn a fortune) while trying to prove the foreign contractors are being justifiably replaced. I don't feel any sympathy for the HA as it had been their decision to take on a cheaper contract instead of retaining workers in our (Several) towns. Local jobs for local people when there is no reason for shipping in shoddy labour.0

When i was chosing A-Levels, the maths tutor refused to let me onto the Math A-level course. a few years latter, I was getting a 1st class honours in software engineering. It sucks that because of one person, I couldn't do the degree in normal engineering that I really wanted to do.
My school was very keen for me to do subjects they knew a: I would do well in b: they were looking to boost rate of A grades in. Sadly these were not my first choice subjects. I was happy to do an extra a -level but I wanted to be quite open in my a -levels as I was fairly sure I wanted to go a science route at university but I was naturally more disposed to languages and literature.
In the end I stayed at my school for one term of a -levels then, felling frustrated, left. It was very difficult to justify to my family, and the school were furious. I took the rest of the year of to follow my own (money making ) interests and went to the local college the next year, where I read the subjects school had wanted me to do, and the two others -in one year rather than two so as to not 'fall behind'. It felt really good to have got my own way, and still got the grades they wanted from me in the subjects they wanted them in. It was also, possibly, the best year of my academic life. I loved it.
ETA: as a few years later the whole brain thing imploded, in the longterm it wouldn't have mattered. Fun at the time though.0 -
And heres the rub... my old friend was more knowledagble ,capable than me but dropped out of my course.... in year 1 to switch to an investment banking degree...
He finished same year as me (Bachelor vs 4 year meng etc) and got 35k starting salary and some pretty nice bonuses. What he did he said was alot easier than robotic engineering (degree we studied) and he was rolling in the big bucks. He was on about 43k be fore the credit crundch +bonuses. I started on just above 22k as an eng graduate....
i
Money drove his change of career, and the engineering communia lost a potentially good engineer due to significantly lesser pay.
However... he is now out of work and seeking to retrain as a teacher because of recession/credit crunch. So am not jealous i didnt do what he did, luckily for me because engineers are in demand its easier to jump jobs even in recession for me.
never heard of an investment banking degree. obviously didn't do him much good if he was only on £43k.0 -
I guess the people that fear the most the influx of immigrants are those with poor qualification or no qualification at all and sure enough they should be fearful as there are more competition for the same jobs (in many cases). I don't think there are much people can do though apart maybe from voting for BNP and wishing they pull the UK out of the european union. Actually there is one other thing people can do and that's getting better qualification.0

So how many do you know? or is your opinion based on what you have read?
By the way i am not a member, before anyone gets the wrong idea, but do sympathise with anybody who does support, or vote for them, and can also understand why anybody would.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0
