How can we persuade employers NOT to use imigrant workers?
Comments
-
This is a very thorny issue. Unchecked immigration (especially the economic kind) has put untold strains on British society with many empluers simply going for the cheapest option in employing cheap immigrants rather than British workers,
This has led to many British people losing their jobs and has caused huge social unrest in places like Oldham, Burnley, Manchester etc.
How can we dis-incentivise employers from taking the cheap and easy option of foreign workers?
I miss you Dervish, always good for a laugh, I can't say I noticed your personality morph into a new ID although Macaque has undertones. I have a feeling that Dithering Dad has made a new appearance with a new wind up ID, that will be four I have noticed (apart from the obvious ones).

Increasing population also provides more employment.
100 million people need pretty much twice as many doctors, care workers, lawyers, bankers, mechanics, bus drivers and construction workers as 50 million people.
Thinking that immigrants take jobs from the native born population is nonsense.
The propaganda we are fed is that we NEED immigrant workers. OK we may not have enough doctors or nurses (skilled jobs) but do we relaly need to import foreigners to do unskilled work such as labouring or waitressing?
Get all the dossers, benefit fraudsters forced to take the menial jobs and kick all the legal and illegal workers out.

If migrants are here legally and legitimately then whats the problem? The only query i have is that i see people whom i perceive as migrants doing various jobs and i wonder to myself, who did those jobs before the migrant came?
Unless they are newly created jobs, someone must have done them so why did that person leave the job?
A Hotel owner was on the news the other night explaining how she prefers immigrant employees. She said they are more flexible.
Basically this means for minimum wage they will perform any task and work any hours at any time they are requested.
We have been trying to enhance the working conditions of the low paid for generations, Even these lower classes have come to expect a basic level of dignity in employment. Not any more.
Employers use a constant stream of immigrant labor. That will let themselves be exploited. Short term. Then They move on. Suss the benefits system or move into decent jobs.
Thats why we need a constant supply of cheap foreign labor. The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mystical. It is the power of all true art and science.
He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead.

"How can we persuade employers NOT to use imigrant workers? "
Why would we want to?.
It seems only fair that employers should be able to choose the best person to fill a position. It doesn't matter if they are a migrant or not.
To remain competitive you need to employ the best labour available. It's not simply a case of employing the cheapest workers around.
Unfortunately, this doesn't say much for the "home grown" workers here, when many employers prefer to employ foreign workers.
Having worked alongside quite a few Polish contractors, I can see why their bosses employed them. They were highly skilled, highly motivated and completely reliable. It wasn't hard to see why they were valued as employees.
Co-incidentally, they were on the same pay rates as their British counterparts.
Most of these people aren't here "stealing our jobs". They are here because they are valued by employers.
If having these people working over here forces the idle and !!!!less elements of our society to raise their game to compete in the jobs market, then I welcome it.:T
P.S. If your poll had an option of,
"REDUCE BENEFITS TO FORCE THE IDLE AND !!!!LESS IN THIS COUNTRY TO SEEK EMPLOYMENT"
then I would have voted.:)Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -

You must be working with different people than me, while a lot of them are hard working the quality of work from most of them is poor at best.
In London the only way to get a job on a big construction site is for British workers to work for the same wages as the eastern Europeans or they won't be employed.
Generally speaking they are employed because they are cheap.0 -
The real answer is of course simply expressed as a 'mixed bag'. Nothing is ever black & white.
True, some migrant workers bring strong work ethics. Whether they get tired of being exploited by the poorer businesses remains to be seen.
Migrant workers bring different culture. The explosion killing 5 migrants was an illegal and dangerous alcohol distillery. One shut down in London recently was staffed by Polish people specifically brought over to run it. This is not a good thing.
The language issues put a strain on local services. This is a hidden cost which businesses do not directly cover.
If we accept a migrant workforce we also have to accept the costs of supporting a large unemployed local populace. We can't have it both ways.0 -

You are spot on with your comments; immigrants (legal or ilegal ) will seek jobs; they will make lots of sacrifices to get jobs; is not easy for eastern Europeans to leave behind their native land and their firts language; but they move for jobs; British people, prefer to remain in high unemployment area and claim benefits than to move in other parts of the country to fill the available jobs; that is way there is unemployment and also lots of immigrant workers; As you have pointed out;
if the benefits are reduced (at a limit that the Polish people will get in Poland when they are unemployed there) more British people will seek jobs in different parts of UK and they will in turn stop the Eastern Europeans moving here; it will be a fair job market; the economy is unbalanced and without committed and properly trained and flexible workforce no country will progress.
If you just stop the immigrants you will still have unemployment as well as vacancies that needs filing in other parts of UK. In turns, companies that cannot find committed, trained and flexible workforce in their part of UK will have to relocate in more affluent areas (but that is not necessarily within UK, they can survey the cost of moving and will move in Eastern Europe all together ).0 -

you don't.
what you should do, is open the other eye, tear up the BNP membership and burn your white pillow case with the eye holes cut out.
as an investor in british companies, I don't want the company to be uncompetitive by paying higher wages for lower quality work.0 -
I can't vote because the option "Leave EU" is not there.
Most migrant workers are from EU and we can't stop them unless we leave the EU.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
Most of the foreigners coming into Britain are desperate and work hard to scrape a few coins together.
That does not mean we should be too sympathetic to them. Every job they do is one fewer job for our own people to take.
I cant see why anyone other than the OP would ressurect such an old thread that everyone else has long forgotten about. hi Dervish, why were you banned?0
