The account is still open but I do not use it anymore as I have a separate account with them, I will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. Will keep you posted as to how it goes, Thanks very much for your advice, it really helps to have someone to advise you on which way to go. You are a saint
Are you claiming on the separate account with them as well?

    Bank: Alliance and Leicester
    Amount Reclaimed:£1941 + £156 interest

    Amount they paid: £639
How long did it take: 2 weeks!
The story: I asked for my charges to be refunded at the beginning of the year and was refused. 2 weeks ago I sent off letters asking for settlement due to hardship and filled in all the paperwork they requested. Later that week I had a letter saying that due to my situation they would delay repayment of the overdrawing but in 14days time would remove all banking facilities!!!!! Very upset to say the least. I logged onto my internet banking to begin moving all my direct debits only to find that £639 has been refunded. I still have had no correspondance from A&L regarding the refunds but will be accepting this amount without predjudice and will continue to claim for the remaining £1450!!!!!! They have however told me over the phone that my account will no longer be closed so that's good.

I'll let you know if I get the rest!!

Thanks so much Martin, you're a total star xxxxx
  • Chances are good perhaps. Do you have priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities) that are not part of any payment arrangement for the arrears?

Thanks for the reply,no arrangement with my gas/electric suppliers and have a suspended repossession order on my property for an additional £260 per month which we cannot adhere to.

    So surely this qualifies??

It seems a good one. Have you written in to Halifax and RBS(I think) to ask them to look at your claim for hardship?
    Have they responded yet?

  • thank you they have sent out income and expenditure forms to fill in, I have filled them in and has been left with a minus on our income. I am going to send back arrears letters for my mortgage, council tax and energy supplier.

Halifax are a pain on repaying under financial hardship aren't they??

Difficulty is knowing what any bank will respond beforehand.
