Bank Charges Financial Hardship Success Stories

  • Last month I received a payment from Nat West for £3800. My original claim put in 2 years ago was for £2250 so not sure how this got rounded up to £3800 but very happy as you can imagine! I re-applied via the "hardship" route about 2 months before the payout (this was before the template letters but I had to fill in a Financial form send proof of outstanding debts etc.) and I also proved that despite cutting D.Debits to a minimum Nat West's charges had directly helped to put me in financial hardship as they had bounced some payments and then charged me. My advice is to set everything out clearly and keep your teeth gritted and keep on at them!
  • Did everything according to the MSE guidelines and templates and claimed against the Royal Bank of Scotland, I had to prove financial hardship by producing an arrears letter from the Council charge and that I had not paid this. The reclaim took over 9 months from start to finish and I received over £2,500 into one account and over £900 into my other account:T. The downside to this claim was that I had to return my cheque guarantee card and cheque book and receive a solo card which my 16 year old son has and I have also been unable to set up any new direct debits or standing orders on my account since then which makes it more not less difficult to manage my accounts.

Hi all, this is my reclaim story....
I am currently claiming financial hardship due to disability against Barclays £2400, Natwest £2600 and Nationwide £400. Natwest refused my financial hardship claim due to not falling into the criteria which classifies 'Financial Hardship' (their words) even though I am in receipt of DLA, Incapacity benefit, Housing/council tax benefit and working tax credit.. go figure!!!! (ANY ADVICE ON THIS PLEASE) However last Thursday I noticed a credit into my Barclays account of £1,900 under 'Goodwill Gesture', which left me confused, happy and a little concerned. I received a letter Today from Barclays informing me that my claim on Financial Hardship had been reassessed and in accordance to their new policy they accepeted my claim and paid a Goodwill Gesture of £1,900 and if the Bank Charges case goes the customers way they will pay the outstanding claim... YEAH, happy days. So this now gives me more ammo against Natwest, double YEAH. So a big THANKS to you Martin (peoples hero) :money::T

I'll explain the NatWest view, having benefits paid into an account is not necessarily a definition of hardship. I receive state benefit but am not in hardship. If you have priority debts that is where you have room to go back to the bank and asking them to reconsider(albeit the Barclays payout now changes your circumstances again).
Good win but remember that if you have any charges still outstanding with Barclays they are still on the table.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

    Hi,

My Sister has a bank charge claim in progress. She made the claim under the "hardship" category with the Clydesdale bank.

A bank representative phoned her back saying they would pay £100 which would tide her over until its been settled in court. The person said this offer could not be made in writing and was "open" only over the phone.

My thinking is that they don't give money out for free and it could trip her up if it gets to court. Anyone got any thoughts or has been through this already?

    Thanks

    Rod
CapitalOne gave £192 in a goodwill gesture.
  • hi all
i put my claim in a couple of weeks ago against nationwide . i had a phone call from complaints department and they took my expenditure etc over the phone i called them yesterday to see how things were progressing and she told me they have untill the 23rd of this month to deal with it but she wouldnt tell me if my hardship had been approved . i checked my acc and it is still the same no goodwills etc what do you think will happen next . i can not view my acc on line as they have restricted it i cant use my card as that to has been frozen the only way i can check my balance is by calling them but i have been put onto incomin calls as i can not afford the phone bills in a min and to call an 0845 num on my m cost nearly £5 a time . ... i just wished they would get a move on .
  • My wife's claim with HSBC has begun to be dealt with. They are one bank that doesn't seem to be mentioned in the success stories, and we were beginning to get worried.
Their offer to her today was a staged payment to cover our shortfall of income v's expenditure plus £200, with the majority being paid to direct to our mortgage lender.
Not the best result, but nevertheless, money is enroute and if we're deemed in hardship again next month, we can apply for another staged payment.:j
:j bad with names?? just call people "bollox", and you'll never get it wrong again :p

many thanks for this... I found this out today when I rang Natwest for a new hardship form... but surely if a person is in receipt of housing benefit and council tax benefit that this shows that this person does not have enough income to support outgoings hence housing/council tax benefit (ie income is below national average)........ or am I being a little presumcious!!!! again thanks natweststaffmember :):money:
