I received just over £2,000 under financial hardship from Natwest. I started the process in Autumn 2008 and received it in March 2009.

Guess what.... I only started the hardship route one week ago,and a lady from Barclays just rang me to take my expenditure details on the phone.AND....
she confirmed I am in hardship and I will receive 2021.00 Pounds out of a 2500 P. claim!!:T:beer::j
Barclays are easy to deal with when it comes to hardship, mind you I have been fighting since 2006!
They are very helpful, just one piece of advice: When they ring to discuss your claim, make absolutely sure that you explain to them how bad it is.I even told them i had holes in my shoes LOL.:D
She was very understanding and confirmed i was in hardship.can't believe my luck really.:rotfl:
Keep at it and tell them how tight it is,they will understand.

I always cursed Barclays for being tight and arrogant, not helpful at all,but they seem seem to be the best Bank when it comes to hardship claims.

Good luck to you all out there and don't give up!

BTW,the lady made it very clear that this gesture of goodwill in no way affects my claim and that the remainder will be paid out once the test case is concluded!

I'm just wondering if i should go for the lot, as i don't trust the goodwill gesture.

Go for the lot I would say.

I sucessfully claimed £800 which included interest, after they offered me £100 as a deal.
I refused and threatened to take them to court.

I got a cheque in the post on Saturday.
Started my claim in October time lats year and claimed for financial hardship

After writing to barclays in July 2008 claiming as a hardship case, i finally recieved a payment this week from barclays. Although its not the full amount i asked for, its more than i was expecting really. And to top it off, they pointed out in their letter that if the OFT do ask the banks to pay out after the conclusion of the court case, i will receive the rest of my money, plus intrest. So crossed fingers that in July the waver is lifted i should get the rest of my money!!
    :T

After my partner being made redundant in December this money has come in handy in paying off some debt and treating ourselves to some things we really needed!!

Not bad for the cost of a stamp!! I highly recomend people claiming these illegal charges back!

Good luck to those still waiting!!

I got an offer from NatWest today and will accept it, will post the details as soon as the money is in my bank. It was a hardship claim and a weight has lifted from my shoulders... I feel like I'm crawling out from under a rock, into the light!
  • Bank: Natwest
    Amount Claimed: £1060
    Amount Received: £1139

Sent off a request in January under the hardship waiver. Then they requested an income and expenditure sheet which I sent off. Eventually they agreed with my claim and on Monday I received an "exceptional offer", as they put it. It was £79 more than I requested so I was obviously delighted. Sent my acceptance off and now await the payment.

Got to say although it seemed like quite a long wait from start to finish the staff in Glasgow were always helpful and friendly, returning calls etc.

I received my letter today from BARCLAYS giving me settlement of my bank charges which was £1,600. So pleased and thanks to MSE for template letters. I kept writing and quoting hardship claim and they gave in. So everybody out there whose claims are still on hold, keep pestering and you will succeed.

took less than 24 hours YES paperwork faxed to them this morning and money in my bank account at lunch time !!!!!
only downside is .... claimed for £2,449 and received £750 with a letter informing me on its way that the rest will be reviewed as and when the test case results and OFT decision is made !!..

had on hold claim, recent change in circumstances meant i could claim under FOS hardship ie divorce, lot of creditors and paid over £500 in unauthorised overdraft charges in last 12 months .....sent paperwork on 10th march. 5 days later had call to say some documents were missing...was given direct fax to send missing paperwork to, and a direct dial support worker to speak to at the A&L if needed. Only managed to fax what they needed at 8.30am today...by lunchtime £750.00 had been deposited into account. when i spoke to them to find out what this money was for, very kind lady dictated letter to me that is on my way to me ... would have loved the full amount back but 10/10 for swift response......:T .

In a nutshell have a current account with Halifax, which has o/d of £-950 at present, don't use this account now, as suffered too many charges etc etc. Have a basic Natwest account instead for household running , wages etc.

Requested 6 years statements from Halifax, totalled up nearly 6k of charges and interest, wrote to them telling them I was in financial hardship - had to take lower paid job, have HBOS mortgage arrears of £900, (currently paying this off at £100 month), and split from partner. They sent me an income/expenditure form, which I have completed and sent back.

Rang them how case is progressing, to be told, decision not made as yet as to whether I qualify for 'hardship', then out of blue received letter stating that as goodwill gesture due to my financial circumstances, would I accept £474, and claim for rest of money would be dealt with once Court decisions finalised.

Question is do I pursue this under 'finanacial hardship' - I know I must qualify!! Or do I settle for the £474 and count my blessings they offered anything so soon.

Advice, on success rate great appreciated

  • Bank: Natwest
    Amount Claimed: 4500.00 + interest
    Amount Awarded last week: 7180.00

Started claim in January 2008. Put in claim for four and a half thousand pound, plus interest. Was told my claim had been filed and would be dealt with after High Courts decision

November 2008. Got behind with mortgage and bills. Wrote to them claiming financial hardship. Received letter offering me five hundred pounds as a final settlement...LOL I told them where to go!! They then asked for a financial statement to be filled in.

I received a letter stating I wasn't in their opinion suffering financial hardship!! I decided to leave it until the high courts decision.

Out of the blue last week got a letter offering me 7180.00 as a final payment. I rang and accepted within minutes!! Got the money deposited into my account the next day. From talking to the lovely lady (she must be a one off) at Natwest to accept my offer she gave me the impression Natwest are expecting to have to pay out on all these claims sooner or later!!

Thank you so much Martin for bringing this to light for us all. My children will now get a holiday this summer!!

Just waiting for Halifax to respond now!!!

Good luck everyone, I never thought I'd get my money back but in the end I got more than I ever expected!!!

    :j xx
