Hi Guys,
I know this is going to be a rather cheeky message and maybe a few of you would prefer to private message me. But I dream of the day me and my OH can afford to get married. We've been together 2 1/2 years and I already have 2 children aged 6 and 4 who love him to pieces. I am also ten weeks pregnant with our first child together. We often talk about the dream of getting married but at the moment we are against taking out loans or getting into debt as we would like to enigrate to australia in the future. At the moment our dream of getting married seems to be just that... A dream we can never have. But Im trying to look into cheaper forms of getting married. There's the £999 deals a few hotels near us are offering but they are very basic and unoriginal that I feel it would be a lot of money spent that we would never be 100% happy with. However since last year we keep coming back to Gibralter. Its a lovely place and my cousin has a holiday home in Faro, Portugal we could escape to as a honeymoon. Im just wondering what kind of budget everyone has been able to spend on there weddings so I have some idea if it would be feasable and also how long it would take us to save.
Thankyou in advance for anyone that can help me xSaving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*
£11,860.00 needed = £1,106 in savings

Hi girls,
This is the link to the registry office which gives the basic costs of the legal bit
You can get married at the registry office or at a number of venues in Gibraltar
this site may help
You can basically do whatever your budget allows, there are gorgeous restaurants at the harbour for receptions if you don't want hotels.
If you have any specific questions please ask away and I'll do my very best.
Herbie is a bit busy getting married at the moment! lol
Hope this helps0 -

Yes I know its late but I was doing finances anyway so the report was to hand when I checked my email update!
We got wed in Aug last year.
My parents had invited us to join them and my brothers family on holiday in Duquesa in Spain last year so decided to get hitched then after 13 years together (so no accomm/flight costs!) We actually got wed in the tiny garden at The Caleta and had our reception for 20 there on one of the seaview terraces.
Costs were
Cake from Cake Creations in Gib £75
Copies of Certificates (divorce/previous marriage etc) £88
Clothes approx £500 for bride/groom/son and bridesmaid daughter
Favours/Table decs taken out with us £64
Hair cut and highlights before £52
Hair blowdry in hotel on the day £15
Hotel room 1 night inc B/F £89
Caleta reception - forked buffet and drinks package for 20 people plus decorations for garden/chair sashes, bride and bridesmaid bouquets and 2 buttonholes (although if I could have had florist details would have gone direct to them) Total £1036
Bar Tab £200 (we didnt want our friends to pay when they had spent money to come out)
Registrar Fees (for outside of the registry office) £307.50
Legal witness to sign oath £20
Postage for wedding certificates £12
Rings £228
Friend who came out was our photographer
There were a few other bits n pieces but that was the bulk of it TOTAL £2186.50 (I drove a hard bargain)
A few basic pics are on the Gibraltar wedding pictures thread if you want to see our venue although we could have had better locations for pics if we could have been bothered - it was incredibly laid back!!!
Found a link not sure if it will work tho' https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1921451
If you need any more information or better location pics send me a PM.
Hopefully Herbiecat will post some pics of her venue - she gets wed later today, good luck Chris.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Hi All,
I've spent a long time reading all the posts about getting married in Gibraltar.
Myself and my finace spent a few days there this week and we loved it, we are hoping to get married at 7pm in 'The Dell' botanical gardens then have our reception at the O'Callaghan Elliot Hotel.
I've seen posts from others that have got married in the gardens and I can't wait.
Is anybody else planning their wedding for August next year in the gardens or does anyone have any advise/tips for reception.
We are thinking of an evening BBQ on the rooftop pool area of the hotel.0 -

My daughter is getting married this August in the Dell and having her reception at the Elliott!
She had booked a beach party but with the building work at the airport had to cancel so is having a 'pool party' instead. However the hotel has said that they cannot make the poolside exclusive at this time of year so guests will be about however they do tend to melt away once they realise there is a wedding party there. Also be aware that it is going to be soo frustrating dealing with the hotel, especially if you can't contact them in working hours (bearing in mind they're an hour ahead of us) and my dd can't as she's a teacher and can't contact them whilst at school.
They ask for a £500 deposit which will be taken off your final bill.
We're still waiting for the invoice and we booked over 2 weeks ago!
I'll keep you in touch with our correspondence and let you know how we go.
Congratulations, you'll have a wonderful time!0 -
Hi sal-ad daze,
Thanks for the reply.
We had a meeting with Joseph when we were there, he's the catering and banqueting manager and he was great, really helpful. PM me if you want his details but I presume you already have them.
We live in Spain so are on the same time as Gib and Joseph is always quick to reply.
We returned on Saturday and either the building work has finished or we just didn't notice it
Can I ask who you are using for flowers, photographers, cake etc?
Any other helpful information to keep the stress levels down would also be great:rotfl:
Thanks again0 -

Ah, being in spain will make things so much easier!
DD is using Kelvin & Mandy at Cake Creations for her cake, they were reccommended to us by a restaurant we contacted initially and they've been so patient with my indecisive daughter! We gave the link to another bride here (kazmeister) and she had a single tier cake which she reported as gorgeous!
This site may help.
Dd hasn't decided on a photographer yet as a friend was going to do it but now can't go, she's looked at the list (above) and is talking to a couple of them. The basic cost is averaging at about £350 depending on what you'd want.
She's using silk flowers as there's a UK reception and she wanted to give the UK guests the 'whole look'.
Herbiecat (recently married at the Dell) used Stephanie's I think and was very happy, she has a thread with photo's here somewhere.
Anything else, just ask. xx0
