    Hi emmielou

Welcome to the thread and precongratulations ;).

Gib was a lovely place to get wed. The atmosphere was very laid back and the sun shone. It really is a case of anything goes, nobody worries. We had our ceremony and reception for 20 at The Caleta and they have 3 organisers there who helped me out although I prefer to do things myself. I certainly wouldnt pay a wedding planner its so easy to do yourself.

Stephanies flowers were fantastic, my orchids lasted the whole time we were there and I didnt have the heart to throw them away.
Kelvin and Mandy's cake was fabulous (froze what we didnt use at the apartment and brought it home so friends could have some!)

Will look out their contact details.

We were 14 family staying at apartments in Duquesa about 25 mins along the coast from Gib and getting everyone there was fine. Took about 40 mins to get through the border with the car. Friends flew directly into Gib and stayed at The Caleta, the Queens and The Bristol. Wouldnt recomment the last two but the friends made their own choices.
You might find it easier to have everyone stay a few days in the area around the apartment and have a meal there. There are some great restaurants along the coast.

Feel free to PM me about anything especially the paperwork process as that can get confusing.

  • Hi emmielou

My dd is getting married at the beginning of August in the Gardens and having her reception at Mons Calpe.
She recommends you try the Waterfront restaurant, we were going there but there's too many of us.
We haven't used a planner but you need the patience of a saint to get through to anyone - they're definately on spanish time!
We are also staying in Duquesa and travelling through the border.
Any other questions pm and I'll try to help.
I'm around more now - busy times at School just lately! lol

    Hi all,

I have been looking at the Waterfront restuarant and it looks rather nice!

We are looking aat August now so I have to email the registrar and the gardens again. OH needs to get a copy his birth certificate and my parents 'believe' they have a copy of the long one!

Ah, I just want to book it now!

Why aren't the Register Office answering us?? Sob!

We changed the date to 2011 for various reasons and emailed them, they said send copies of your birth certificate. So we got long copies of our birthcertificates and sent them off, then they came back asking for copies of our passports as well. Fine but it would have been helpful if they had asked for them at the same time as the birth certificates.

Now it's been 2 weeks and no reply from them!

Has anyone else had this experience?
  • Hi Emmielou

I was lucky and never had a problem but its been mentioned on this thread previously that some people have had a problem with them. Try sending them a fax as well as an email, dont know if it will make any difference but its worth a try.

Its so naughty when they dont reply, they are even more laid back in Gib than they are in Spain.

Let us know how it goes.

Ah, fax! I hadn't thought of that one! It's just so frustrating. They have replied to all our emails really quickly until now and we ca't get through on the phone!

    Thanks Herbiecat!

    Hi emmielou

it is a case of being patient and if you are looking at 2011 you have plenty of time - we had 9 weeks!!!

We scanned our passports and emailed them, but they didnt seem to respond any quicker to either emails or fax, we tried both :rotfl:. When you go to their offices allow PLENTY of time, its a tiny room and people were queueing out of the door when we went so they are really busy, and they only answer the phones between certain times - I cant remember what they were but it was only for about an hour a day or something silly.

If you are getting wed in Gib you need to chill out about it otherwise their laid back attitude will give you cause for stress and trust me you dont need it.

They will get back to you EVENTUALLY :rotfl:

ETA when you do go to the office you need to take some cash to pay the solicitor across the road who you have to get to sign the papers - about £20 I think

Us too and it was only about 930 in the morning. There were so many people when we went in and its passports and everything else as well and having to go back once youd got the paperwork signed and queue again

I'd do it all again though as we had a great time :)
