Hi all
This is the 1st time i've posted but I have been spying on you all for a while
, I wanted to introduce myself because im sure I will need your help in the future.
My name is Christine and im 38, i've been with my fiance for 2 years and the date of our wedding is our 3 year anniversary, we vaguely knew each other at school but he had a big mohican which put me right off :rotfl:.
I flew out to Gibraltar last week to book my wedding at the botanical gardens for May 2010. I'm so excited, the place is gorgeous.
My folks live in Torremolinos and so we will all go by coach to Gib on the morning of the wedding and have the do back in Torremolinos later in the afternoon. The reception is at a bar that we use and has a lovely big terrace that im going to enjoy decorating.
I'm thinking of getting my dress from Landy because our budget is only around £2000 and ive already spotted one on there I like, I just need to go to a few shops to try some on. I'm having 4 bridesmaids, my partners 2 children who will be 9 and 14 by that time and my 2 best friends, at one time I joked there will be more bridesmaids than guests but luckily that doesnt seem to be the case, im gobsmacked at how many people want to spend there hard earned money and celebrate with us.
Anyway sorry for the long post, I just want to say hello and this is me!

Ooh Herbiecat, I think I'll be talking to you a lot in the coming months! lol
My daughter and her fiancee have just decided to get married in Gibraltar next summer!
They have friends who live in Gibraltar and got engaged there last summer.
They had jumped in feet first last year and booked a very expensive venue, when they realised that there were a LOT of add ons on top of that initial expense they decided to bite the bullet and cancel that venue, they're actually feeling a lot happier now.
Congratulations to you, speak to you soon. lol0 -
Hi Sal-ad-daze
Wow, i've been wondering if I would meet anyone else also getting married in Gib on here !! :j
I was brought up in Gib because my dad was in the Navy and I try to go back a couple of times a year just coz I love it so much, thats the reason I wanted to get married there and luckily Simon was all for it it.
Where are they having the ceremony? There was a bride on our plane when we flew out last wk, I really wanted to talk to her but didnt manage to catch her, the check in guy told me she was getting married but she also had a huge white box with her which kinda gave her away!
Speak to you soon x0 -
They're not sure yet, they jumped in with both feet and booked a venue here that they've just cancelled so are taking this a bit slower!
They quite fancy the Cable car station (I'm not sure - hate heights lol) and apparently you can have your reception in St. Michael's Cave which H2b thinks quite cool!
They're worrying about family and how much it will cost them to stay out there, thinking a package to Costa del Sol would work out cheaper for them and bus 'em in for the ceremony (also keep them out of her hair IYKWIM lol).
The wedding will have to be August as she's a teacher and can only do holidays so it's going to cost everyone more.
I'm waiting for the go ahead to get prices from various venues, they're determined to think things through this time!
Her Uni friend married her boyfriend who came to Uni from Gibraltar and they now live out there so they both go over when they can to see them.
So come on, spill your details!0 -
Hi again
We've made Torremolinos our base because mom and dad live there, so everyone will stay there or the surrounding areas and then we will bus them down on the morning of the wedding-It will be a rush getting ready because we will have to leave at 9:30ish, im stressing about getting a hairdresser that early but I saw that there was a few mobile hairdressers in the local paper.
The wedding is whit wk next year because like you we needed holiday time due to my 2 future step-daughters school hols.
The wedding is at the botanical gardens in an area called The Dell, its so stunning! Theres waterfalls, foutains, ponds, fruit trees and gorgeous flowers - the smell was devine when I went to look last week and hopefully it will be even better round May time.
Id have loved to do the cable car station but it was hard enough getting my eldest step daughter up the rock last summer, she nearly had a heart attack when she first set eyes on the cable car, she was good and went up but only after sitting on the floor all the way :rotfl:
We booked the photographer as well when we were there, we've used a shop on the main street, hes been there donkeys years and has a shop full of photos inc ships and bridal stuff, I could have spent hours looking around his shop.
When we booked the registrar we were told we could only have a miday wedding or 6pm, so we chose miday. We will then bus everyone back to Torrie and have a good old knees-up :j
Theres a few wedding Gib wedding videos on You tube.
Isnt it exciting!!

That sounds gorgeous, I'm really going to try to sell that one because your next quote sounds just like me!!!!

The only problem I'd have is getting down on the floor and getting up again!:rotfl:

Yes, I'd heard that they limit times, noon in August would be very hot outdoors, do they use a 'gazebo' type thing for shade do you know?
Theres a few wedding Gib wedding videos on You tube.
Off too look right now!
Isnt it exciting!!
Yes, :jI'm trying to reign myself in because they want to be sure to think things through properly and I'm racng ahead! LOL

You don't see a problem with coaches going into Gib from Spain?
Are you arranging your families travel and accomodation or are they doing it themselves?
We don't know if it's cheaper to let them sort themselves out or go to Thomson or someone and see if we can group book, but then who would be the lead name and take resposibility? Oh, questions questions:rolleyes:
It's good to talk:rotfl:

Luckily my mom rents out holiday apartments so we are using some of them & i've suggested that people with families look at all-inclusive hotels coz theres loads on the costa del sol, im just suggesting to people what areas to look at and then leaving it to them to sort, its stressful enough without booking it for them but the Thomson idea is good one if you dont already have a base.
I spoke to the lady at the Dell about coaches and she said that we may have to change to a Gibraltar coach when we get over the boarder but that shouldnt be to much hassle - Just more expense!
A 6pm eve wedding would be lovely in the summer because the flowers seem to smell lovely at that time of day, its quite an enclosed area so it may be shaded without needing a gazebo.
Have a look at the Gibraltar.com website, theres a few things about weddings on there and theres a couple of pictures of the Dell.
It is soooo pretty, my mom went to see it last month and she said how nice it was but I didnt expect it to be so lovely.
We went to the top of the rock in Aug last year and it was a killer, really really hot but it would be fun and very original.

Hi Herbiecat,
Well, the word is spreading! I'm on a mision to design and print save the date cards as soon as they have a date confirmed. People she's spoken to have been very enthusiastic (as I knew they would) and are starting to save pennies already. She's feeling a bit guilty about the increased costs of school hols but it can't be helped.
What are you wearing, can you give me the model no. of the Landy that you like (I'm really nosey lol)? My daughter had a dress picked out for her UK wedding but we don't think it will be suitable for Gib in August, it was a big princess gown with a very firm corset top.
Oh, you must be so excited, I know I am and I'm only MoB!!!:rotfl:
Would you mind if I asked for your Mum's details (via pm) as I'm sure some people will be looking for apartments in that area.

Hi S
Wow thats great, i'm dead chuffed for you all. I was like you and felt really guilty about it being holiday time but it had to be so my OH's 2 girls could come and to be honest i'm amazed by the amount of people who still want to come. I'm warning them all to book their flights as soon as they are released because that way they will be much cheaper. Our numbers are going up and up which is lovely but a bit scarey to!
The dress I really like is HS0976, I want to wear a bra you see so I like the straps. The only thing is theres some cobbled stairs to walk down and im bound to go !!!! over t*t with the long train but I really love the dress - I need to go and try some on.
Yeah of course you can have moms details, im not sure how you private message (im a novice on this), I can also send you the photos of the gardens that I took last week so you can get some idea of what its like.
I've decided to stay in Gib the night before the wedding instead of travelling down with everyone else, it was gona be to much of a rush and I thought it would be much nicer if Mom, me and my bridemaids have a relaxing morning having our hair and stuff done.
Anyway let me know how you pm me.

Hi Chris,
click on the user name and a drop down box appears, click on 'send private message' and there you go!
I think we'll be staying in Gib the night before too.
Laura is leaning towards an evening ceremony with a nice meal afterwards to celebrate, I think it will be gorgeous!
I have sent you a 'pm' it should tell you at the top of the web page that you have a personal message, click on that and it will take you to it.
Just had a peek at your dress, gorgeous!
Did you say cobbles!!! OMG that's me in flatties! lol
