Have been really interested to read about your Gibraltar wedding Herbiecat, and will be doing some research on the area later as we are looking for a quiet wedding abroad either with just the two of us or only close family as guests. The botanical gardens sound fantastic.

We have been looking at a Cyprus wedding, but I'm not 100% sure about the hotel weddings as they don't seem to be private (ie other hotel guests are free to wander over) and it is looking to be more expensive than I first thought.

Can you give me an idea of how much it costs to get married in the gardens and how much for the registrar/paperwork etc? As we only have a small budget of £2000.

    Hi Callisto

Honestly I cant tell you how gorgeous it is, its like an oasis of quiteness - Im not sure if you've ever been to Gib, its mad - Its a tiny place with lots of people, cars and life. The Dell is just wondeful, full of flowers, fruit trees, fountains, a pond - Im so excited!

Google images have some lovely pics of it.

I've just dug out my paperwork so I can quote the costs correctly - Its £67.50 for the marriage licence, £140 for the registra to marry you at the Dell and then the Dell charges £100. The registra costs more if you want him to marry you our of hour i.e 6pm or so - this is £240.

I've only got a budget of 2-3000 and that includes our flights so im with you there all the way.

You're doing really well with your savings, we've got about £300 so far!!!

    Hi Callisto,
    I'd second Gibraltar 100%!
My daughter is in the process of booking her wedding for August 2010 (it will be booked as soon as they have her partner's birth certificate and their certificate of non impediment - going to enquire at registry office about that on Monday) and we are really looking forward to it all.
She has friends in Gibraltar so knows 'the rock' well after many visits there and actually got engaged there last summer. She's looking at an evening wedding in the Dell ( because it's just so hot in August but being a teacher she doesn't have much choice if she wants a honeymoon) followed by an informal party at one of the waterside restaurants. The family are actually staying on the Costa Del Sol as it's a bit cheaper, they're hiring apartments in Sotogrande or Duquesa which are nearer to Gibraltar but not as touristy as Marbella or Torremelinos.
Of course the big advantage of Gibraltar is that it is 'British' so everything is in English, the currency is the Gibraltar pound which is on par with the GB£. It can be a bit confusing coming out of a bank with lots of different designs on your notes ( Scottish notes are accepted too!)lol.

    Hey girls,

Is anyone using a wedding planner to help with the details?
My daughter has friends in Gib but doesn't want to be pestering them (although I'm sure they wouldn't mind at all), she is wondering if it is 'sensible' to contact a planner thinking it may save her money if it saves her having to fly out to finalise things that a planner coud do?

Just read that back and it's a bit garbled but I'm sure you know what I mean! lol

    Hi Sal

I'm not, mainly because of cost but also I dont think theres anything they can do that I cant, Im flying out in July and also Oct to sort stuff and then also March time next year. Mom will be sorting some of the for me because shes in Gib several times a month.

I guess they are a good idea if you are not flying over but I should imagine they are pricey.

Im hoping my wedding is going to be a really relaxed affair and if things go wrong it wont matter, im saying that tho and the numbers are getting abit out of hand!!

Heya everyone! I'm so glad I've found this thread...

My fiance and I are currently looking into getting married in Gib next summer. We've never been there but have heard such wonderful things about it and my blokie really wants to get married in the sun...we're going on a visit to Gib in October so that we can have a good look around and we were hoping that we could wait until then to book the ceremony and reception - however I think that we might be leaving it a little late to book it then, especially as we are quite tied down as to when we can have it as we have children and my s-i-l is a teacher. August is out as it's too expensive and hot, so the ideal time for us is anytime from 9th - 23rd July, or possibly May half term.

Do you think it's too late to try and book the wedding for those dates in October?

Our preference would be to marry in a church (partner's family are staunch Baptists), then the Dell (my choice :)) and then a hotel - we're flexible about what day we marry but would like to have quite a laid back wedding day so we would like the ceremony to be in the afternoon and then we'll do a canapes session and then the wedding breakfast in the evening and not have an evening "do".

I was thinking that I might ring up next week and book the Dell for an afternoon wedding on July 14th or 21st but noted above that they are only booking at 12 or 6..?

Sorry for waffling on but I have no idea what I'm doing and it's even harder then when everything's in another country! lol

    Thanks for any help xx

    Hi Bassibabes and welcome!

My daughter is getting married in Gib next summer, hopefully on the anniversary of her engagement on 4th August. She's a teacher too so it has to be school holiday time.
She's very aware of the heat so is looking at a 6pm ceremony in the Dell followed by champagne and canapes there and possibly a meal in a waterfront restaurant, a lot depends on how many make the trip.
We've finally got a copy of H2b's birth certificate so we can email a copy of the certificates and passports to the registrar and hopefully confirm the date by the middle of next week.
We're planning on staying on the Spanish side of the border as the apartments are so much cheaper there and crossing into Gibraltar on the day (6pm gives us plenty of time).
There are websites that give you details of all the places licences for weddings in Gib. I'll try and post a link tomorrow (my bed is calling me) but try googling mygibraltar, that's a good one to start with.
I'm so envious of you going out this year, my daughter is going over in the summer but I'm not going this time :(

Hi, i have been checking this site on and off for months, but had to reply to this thread. So I finally registered! My partner and I have just about had enough of our difficult families... and we feel really passionate about getting married aborad..just us the kids and maybe my mum and his dad. (his dad is also a photographer)
We were thinking along the lines of cyprus.... but gibralter looks great too...

We have a budget of 2k also. And I cant seem to find flights to cyprus for anywhere enar our budget... it amounts to over half of it! Are flights to gibralter cheaper?
Any info would be great.. is gibralter a child friendly place?

    Hi Bassibabes

Isnt it exciting, I cant wait till next June, we get married Whit wk (half term)which next year is the 1st wk in June. . Im flying out in July to mom and dad for 10 days and will be going to Gib to speak to florists and also have another chat with the photographer we've booked. For such a small place theres lots of churches so im sure there will be somewhere suitable for you. If you have a look at the Gib website theres an email and tel no for the registra and they should be able to advise about dates, everyone is so helpful.

    Hi Holly & Matt

Gib is very childfriendly but is a very busy bustling place, its tiny with lots of people. As Sal has put above you could think about staying outside Gib because its cheaper, flight prices vary massivly depending on when you are thinking of. Our budget is around 3k and that includes flights for me and oh and my 2 future step-daughters, I think we should just do it but we are having a coach to and from Torremolinos on the day of the wedding so as you can imagine thats a massive chunk to. Mine and my BMs dresses will be from Landy to keep the costs down.

As i've said before The Dell is gorgeous, so pretty and oh the smells!!! I can't think of anywhere more perfect to marry the person you love more than anything.

Let us know what you decide.

    Hi Holly & Matt,

    Good choice! lol

We are advising guests to stay in Spain (Costa del Sol) and we are probably going to arrange a coach to Gib for the wedding.
We are advising that people book independantly through holiday/villa rental companies on line and booking flights independantly.
Sotogrande is the closest to Gibraltar, we're staying in La Duquesa which is slightly further away (about 20 minutes).
We're in the Northwest so we're advising people to fly Monarch from Manchester to Gibraltar and pick up a taxi or car hire there.
If people prefer they can take a package holiday, Torremelinos is popular but a bit further away, Herbiecat can tell you exactly.
Flying into Malaga may seem cheaper (it's about 2 hours from Gib) but it's a lot busier and may take longer due to queues etc.

Right not going to baffle you anymore, any questions you know where to come! lol

    Have fun planning!
