Hi Emma,
I too have been reading this thread for months, as i'm also getting married in gibraltar in june 2012. I think the thread has came to an end for the other brides as their dream day has already happened, which means us new brides may have to try and revive it
Unfortunately i can't help you regarding discount's with the hotel's as we are planning on getting married in the dell and then returning to our villas in peurto banus for a big barbecue by the pool with our guests..
What date in June have you booked?? I might see you there...:)0 -
Hi girls,
I think you're right, all the girls on the thread are now married (my daughter's was last August), I just happened to pop back to the forum for a look see (missing it I think;)).
I just wonder if there's anything I can help you with I did most of my daughter's communicating with Gibraltar as she works full time.
Happy to help if I can.:D0 -
I am still yet to get married, August this year and i'm getting married in the gardens as well.
Sal - Did your daughter have Gary Tapp as her photographer?0 -

Hi emmie,
Can't remember his name but here's the link
the guy was fabulous and she got a disc with every photo he took on it, she had to chose 40 for her digital album and just couldn't so left it to him and the finished product was gorgeous! I would highly recommend this company.
Here's a link to the photbucket page with some of the pics on it, you can see they weren't intrusive but really got the 'flavour' of the day!
They were reasonably priced too!

Hi Racewilder I think your comment started a little burst of posts
we're hoping to book the 23rd but I'm so very indecisive!! How about you? Is your planning coming along nicely?
Hi Sal-ad daze, I think you could help me lots! I was wondering how you managed to get a 3pm time slot at the dell? I rang Pat yesterday and she said you can only have a ceremony at 12 and 6, I mentioned knowing that other people had got married outside those hours and she said that was previous years and that now they are strict as too many weddings were taking place and the grass was getting ruined?! My thinking is limit it to 4 per day regardless of the time - they do have a funny way if doing things in Gib don't they
Hoping we'll get this thread going againEmma

And Hi to you too Emmielou
how are you transferring guests to and from Gib - Coach? We've booked our accommodation we decided on an all inclusive on the costa del sol tailored for our 3 children, now having second thoughts as it's 1.5 hrs from Gib then there's the time it takes to cross the border making a midday wedding a little difficult! Plus I love the idea of a villa and a pool party! Are you getting caterers in?

Hi girls!
I can quite see why they've decided to limit the weddings in the dell as the grass does indeed suffer, when my daughter got married the grass in the actual Dell was virtually non existent so she chose to get married by the little pool. I also have to admit that 3 O'clock was rather hot and we would have been cooler and more comfy (not that I think my dd noticed!) at 6. I agree wholeheartedly - they certainly do have a funny way of doing things in Gib!
Emsky, where are you staying on the Costa del Sol, I'm assuming you're further up near Marbella, Fuengirola? We actually stayed in Apartments in La duquesa which is only about half an hour (spanish driving style;))from the border. You will certainly have an early start for a mid day wedding as you will more than likely hit the 'rush hour' in the morning and that certainly means queues at the border. They are rebuilding the border approach to ease the congestion but I don't know when it's due to be completed. Where are you getting married, in the gardens or a hotel? If it's a hotel then you could ask about discounts for your guests for the night before although I appreciate it's an extra expense.
Glad I can be of help0 -
Hi,
We are staying in Gibraltar so we don't have to worry about ferrying people into Gibraltar.
I'm pleased that they have limited the number of weddings in the Dell! The poor grass must suffer!0 -
Sorry Emmielou I got you confused with racewilder! Sal-ad daze we are staying near to benalmadena my family have friends there so cheap accommodation links for them, and also the in laws love holidaying there so keeps them happy too. Still I do think it is going to be a chore getting people into Gib! Did your daughters guests travel by coach and was it hectic crossing the border? We plan to get married on a Sat but could do any day if you have any idea which day would be least busy coming into Gib? - Sunday maybe? Pat from the gardens got back to me, because of the circumstance she has agreed to a 1pm wedding I'm thinking we should go with this and hope for the best regarding travelling in. I'm staying in Gibraltar the night before and half of the guests are coming to gib just for the weekend. I feel if we had a 6pm ceremony the wedding would be over before it had begun really as there will be a few 2yr olds and children there so wouldn't want to let the wedding go too late into the evening.
The plan is ceremony in the dell then reception at the mons calpe - hire charges etc are expensive but it is a gorgeous venue and I'm going to try to negotiate the prices! Your daughter had a champagne reception in the gardens didn't she, did you pay for hire of the lions pond or did you go elsewhere in the gardens where you can supply your own and not have to pay a hire charge? I'd like a few nibbles and champagne after the ceremony - pat said we could go into the picnic area but I think that's quite a walk from the dell.
Sorry for all the questions - I think I'm taking it all a bit too seriously! I just want to get it booked then I can relax... For now0 -

Yes the grass does suffer, it was virtually non existent in the Dell last August so Laura opted to get married by the Lion's pond where there was grass (and her oh's a fisherman so it seemed appropriate:p), she didn't have the reception in the gardens in the end, we went back to the Elliott where she had a pool party (and at 36 degrees plus it was welcome!). She did consider Mons Calpe but didn't have enough guests to merit the expense (we only had about 20 people). If I remember rightly you have to order the canapes elsewhere at the gardens, they only supply the champagne. I'll go back over my emails and see what they said and let you know. Chief bridesmaid lives in Gib so I'll contact her and ask her about best days at the border.
Get right back to you;)0
