Thank you Sal, yeah that's right the gardens supply the champagne and you need to use outside caterers for canapes, but we would only like a few nibbles and don't Wang to pay to hire the lions pond just for champagne - we thought we may be able to go somewhere else in the gardens and avoid a hire charge - after all it is a public place. On asking Pat at the gardens she suggested the picnic area but this is at the top of the steps near the car park so not the best location really!! Thanks for your help I really appreciate it :)

    Hi Everyone,
I've just done a google search and found your posts, they have been very helpful! I too am getting married in Gibraltar next September 2012. It's so nice to hear everyone else's stories! We have our hearts set on getting married at the Caleta hotel with a BBQ afterwards, I've booked the registrar but haven't confirmed and paid a deposit at the hotel yet, just waiting to see if I could budge them down on the costs! We've decided not to go with the package the hotel offers and instead arrange everything ourselves (it's quite difficult doing everything online!!) Any tips/ info sharing would be much appreciated! Especially looking at entertainment for the day? :-)

Hi diane! Welcome!!! I've spent my life reading through all the posts looking for tips, and now the time has come to book everything I have forgotten what I've read ha!! I looked at the Caleta too - it's gorgeous isn't it! we have a lot of young children in our wedding party though and we were worried about those fences at the top of the big drop. We visited back in Jan and the lady who took all the wedding booking was about to leave to start a new job, she said they can discount etc, however I have spoken to the new lady there and the prices seem to have increased quite a lot, I'm sure they will still discount though! A lady off this forum Kazmiester married at the caleta and she paid a lot less than the price list prices, maybe you just have to be a little bit cheeky :) xxx

Hi Emma, I know what you mean, at 13 pages long and growning, this thread gets confusing, lol. It's so nice to find other people getting married in Gib, yay! I noticed your going for the Dell, it looks beautiful there, saw some of the pics on this thread too. We've gone for the caleta as thats where we got engaged plus I love the sea! Know what you mean about the drops tho, not good with little ones around! Are you planning everything yourself then aswell? (Sorry if you've already mentioned it somewhere, lol!) I've been emailing the caleta a million and one questions so far and they've been brill, haven't paid anything yet tho. Just a bit worried as they said there is a large (300 people) wedding the day after we were thinking of getting married so don't know whether to rearrange for the next week, ahh, confused!
Have you booked things yet? I've been trying to find out whether M and S in Gib do the wedding cakes like in the UK? Like you we're on a tight budget! I also have a good friend who lives in Gib (and is also getting married next year!) so will be picking her brains lots! x

It is lovely isn't it Diane, we can get the thread alive again :) Yeah we're going for the Dell - I think - either there or the lions pond, which is still in the gardens but is a little bigger than the Dell, cheaper hire charge if I remember rightly, and you can have champagne etc in there, whereas you can't in the Dell. Then it in the cable car and to the top of the rock for a reception in the mons calpe, however I'm worrying it will all be a bit too formal, my other half loves it though. We both loved the caleta too, but the weekend we went the big chess event was on - every room was full and all function rooms were being used so we didn't really get to view everything. the cable car was also shut for refurbishment so we walked up the rock - pushing a pram haha! Not to be repeated - to view the mons calpe suite! Was an eventful weekend :) Oh Diane I feel your confusion, it is all so worrying isn't it - especially when people are having to travel so far, I'm worrying even more than I would be if I was getting married here I think. I can't imagine the wedding the nest day will interfere with yours, but it might be an idea to block out some rooms for your guests as the other wedding party may stay the night before? Are you holidaying in Gibraltar? We booked an all inclusive in Benalmadena - we have 3 children so it is more for them, we go on tues, get married the following tues, and then have a week after as honeymoon. I am wishing we'd stayed in Gib for a few days though as most of our guests are coming for 3 days and I feel we should be there with them - aaargh ha! I can always change the date as we've booked everything quite early really - I think! in answer to your question I have booked the registrar - that was easy enough, and the dell is booked, and the lions pond pencilled in. Just need to get the mons calpe booked, but I am still negotating! I wish I had a friend in Gibraltar, I would definitely be picking her brains, we have no contacts there what so ever, I can't even remembered what made us think of getting married in Gib, think it was a google search for garden weddings!! xxx

p.s yes I am planning everything myself - finding it a little stressful! Currently talking to monica form hour weddings see if she can get things cheaper, plus feel it may be helpful to have her round on the day as our wedding involves a lot of timing getting in the cable car, to the suite etc! and I think I've read on here that M&S don't do the cakes - but I could be wrong and it could of changed. I was hopin they might do the take out canape platters as I want some nibbles in the gardens, I'm yet to find out though, my to do list is huge ha xxx

    Hi Hunny,
I can't help with the Calleta I'm afraid, my dd used the Elliot but I can help with a suggestion for cakes, my dd used kelvin and Mandy at Cake Creations and I can highly reccommend them, the cake was divine and the marzipan the best I've ever tasted!!! They were very reasonably priced too!

What a lovely cake! It's so strange, I was looking on their website and this one caught my eye! Think I'm definately going to get my cake for them as lots of people have said they are beautiful and taste fantastic!

Emma, if your considering getting some help, I was emailing Kay from mygibraltar who was very helpful. She said they also do a price match guarantee so could be good for bartering! Before I decided on the Caleta she gave me info and prices on The Dell and Lions Pond. With reference to the drinks reception/ canapes so told me:
    'Al-fresco Drinks reception' : £749.00 (total for 25 guests)
    includes

      • Exclusive venue hire of The Lions Pond for up to 2 hours
      • Hire of garden furniture
      • Sparkling wine & orange juice for 25 guests
      • Assorted platters of canapes
      • 2 x waiters
      • All glasses, napkins & cutlery included

If you want I can ask my friend in Gibraltar for you whether she can recommend anyone who can just do canapes?
In answer to your question about where we're staying, we did look at staying in spain but have decided to stay in Gib. Think some of my guests may hire out an apartment as it seems a bit cheaper. We're staying in the hotel for a couple of days then may either look at staying somewhere in Spain for a week or even Portugal, haven't go that far yet though!
I'm trying to not get too obsessed with all the planning but it's so hard, lol, i'm yet to decide of colours, flowers etc but think that the fun bit (I hope!)
Anyway, as I said, if theres anything you want me to ask my friend in Gib let me know, she doesn't mind at all, especially as she's getting married a couple of weeks after me! x
  • Hi Girls,

I have just booked my wedding in Gibraltar for the June 2012, which will take place in the Dell gardens. Having read through your tread I am now some what confused.com! I would welcome any info with arranging details for this special day 8-). I would like a champagne reception in the gardens whilst photo's are taken, followed by a reception at ocean village marina. Any suggestions greatly welcomed.

Hi Diane, thank you so much for the info re champagne reception in the gardens :) and it would be fantastic if you could contact your friend to recommend somebody for canapes - thank you :) Have you got any further with your planning? I definitely agree with you about how hard it is not to get too obsessed with it! I'm trying to take a step back myself - but it is hard isn't it!! I wish we were staying in Gibraltar - well we are - I think! The first thing we did was book a 2 week all inclusive holiday - we have three children so more for them. Now however I'm wishing we had thought it through a little more as we'll have to stay in Gibraltar for two days, but still pay for the all inclusive! x

Welcome rom.1973!! I'm getting married in June too! And in the Dell also :) What date have you booked? Right what do I know.. Regarding the champagne reception in the gardens, if you have a Saturday wedding in the Dell you are not able to hire anywhere in the gardens for the champagne reception - as hire of the lions pond etc is only available on weekdays, You can however use the Picnic area of the gardens, and could either give the job of champagne bringer and server to a lovely guest (nice cheap option), or hire an outside caterer through a wedding planner, or contact restaurants such as 14 on the quay etc. Now in the week you can hire the lions pond (£175) molly bloom cirle (£150 I think!) for the champagne reception, if you do however the champagne must be supplied by the gardens. You can hire tables for £7 each and chairs for £2 each!! Waiter service for 2 hours £45. I'm unclear on length of hire for the lions pond for £175 though - I need to ask! You could also again use an outside caterer and just go to the picnic area - can't guarantee privacy though!! I'm weighing all of this up myself at the moment :) x
