There's nothing worse than spending your hard-earned cash on a holiday only to find you've ended up surrounded by the 18-30 crowd or loads of screaming kids!
I can highly recommend Lake Garda. Don't go to the south of the lake - it's flat and definately full of families and kids. The north is much prettier with a mountainous backdrop. There's plenty of places to go (a quick ferry ride away), watersports galore and loads of nice eating places. You can do as much or as little as you want.
We (me, OH & my brother) stayed half board in Limone at the Hotel Splendid Palace - fantastic location, great food, free local wine and beer with dinner. On our first night we watched a spectacular fireworks displays on the lake from our balcony whilst chilling with a glass of wine. Took a day trip high up into the Dolomites through all the alpine villages. Spent time lounging by the pool or down on the beach. A totally relaxing holiday. I'd go back tomorrow (if the OH didn't have bigger plans about where he wants to go for his 'big 40' this year!!)Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -

Maybe we are just lucky but we usually manage to avoid chavs on holiday... We stayed in a little town just north of Rome called Bracciano (yes where Tom Cruise got married, but before them
) and we only met another British couple in our last week there. It's a great base for day trips to Rome where you will probably see chavs...
Last year we went to Iceland - definately no chavs there!! So much to do it was a great adventure.
Definately timing it right is key I think. We usually leave the right at the end of the Scottish term (last week in June) and find wherever we go (except Iceland) only starts to get busy once the English schools break up. Not much help if you have kids and live in England, but for a couple it's a good idea.
It's only a game

We are going in June this year to avoid the masses that tend to decend on American Cruise Liners in Santorini in July and August. I have never seen any Charvas (a Geordie term for Chavs) on Santorini ever ever ever0

I second the cruise option, never looked back since we started doing them
See a load of places, unpack once.
Some good deals to the Baltics starting to come up.
Not sure give it a try for 5 nights late May bank holiday
All day in Dublin and cork.
