I know you've been to Sicily, but what about mainland Italy?
We love both north and south (and the bit in the middle!) and it's such a refreshing change to be able to sit by a beautiful lake or in the centre of a town and have dinner and drinks late into the night without being disturbed by loud-mouthed British yobs.
Food is wonderful too, and the scenery/history/beauty are to die for!

Did you write this before today's news? Horrible coincidence if so!!

I'd suggest Croatia. Not been, but I did ask for the same thing one here a while back and it came recommended. Reasonably priced, too.

I have also visited Playa Blanca in Lanzarote and Skiathos where there were a fair amount of English people, but no chavs and few 'English Breakfast with English Beer 4euro' served!!!

How about Mallorca? Before anyone shoots me down in flames, I would clarify that I mean around the north coast of Mallorca, such as Deia and Valdemossa, Soller & Pollensa, NOT Magaluf or Palma Nova (which should be avoided at all costs in my opinion - unless you are under 21!!).

Deia, Valdemossa and Pollensa all attract tourists, but in my experience, those interested in the culture and seeing the "real mallorca" and the beautiful scenery - not the chavvy type!!

The north side of Mallorca is mountainous and very beautiful. Lots of culture and local tapas restaurants to try. Lots of interesting things to see and do. Several small, quiet coves you could walk to for a quiet day on the beach. You could hire a small villa in the countryside and if you avoid the school holidays and go in June you should be able to get somewhere quite reasonably priced.

You'd need to fly in and out of Palma which is easy and it is only 45 mins to 1 hour drive up towards the mountains.

    I hope this helps!

We've used Mallorca Farmhouses for acommodation - lovely villas with pools. Most are quite big villas but they do do some smaller ones.

Hey, thats what im doing from Saturday :j Got a cheapish flight, me, OH and kids, off for the week staying in a villa in Pollensa, up in the mountians somewhere:D

Avoid islands. Try the south coast of France or the West Portuguese coast (NOT the Algarve). Skiing is always good (chavs don't like skiing much) but of course you can't do that many places in June. Tigne in France would be an exception to this rule - you can ski there and be warm too and the Alpine environment is very beautiful.

If you have a large budget consider Ascension Island. You can use pounds sterling and you won't meet a single chav. It's in the tropics so will be hot.

But you do get plenty of public school boys and girls on the ski slopes and they can be just as loud and annoying as Chavs. I prefer the Alps in the summer. Still no Chavs and much more affordable. Norway is guaranteed Chav-free because it's cold and alcohol costs a fortune. The Italian earthquake area Littlestar refers to is indeed a good place to get away from mass tourism. I hope the proud local communities recover from this heavy blow.

South west of France is really pretty. It seems to be more popular with french and germans, there are sandy beaches and pretty scenery.
I imagine places like Collioure are busy in July/August - I've only been in early Sept.

You can fly to Perpignan with Ryanair and the coast is only about 30mins away

I agree with pooky23 - Deia is gorgeous BUT it can be a bit touristy during the day because of Robert Graves and the coach tours. We stayed in a lovely apartment with a view down to the sea (in the distance). We had a hire car so after a leisurely breakfast did a mix of walking (lovely walk to soller) and driving around in the mountains. Came back in the evening when all of the tourists had gone and sat on our terrace watching the sun set with a glass of wine before strolling to the restaurant - bliss and chavless!
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

budapest or germany are pretty much brit free, the weather is as good as or better than britain, the same goes for scandinavia and finland, the baltic coast weather is very pleasant in summer.

From visiting the Greek Islands for approaching 20 years now, we have found a very good rule of thumb is to avoid any islands that has an airport that accepts charter flights.

Having to book ones holiday oneself, then take a couple of ferries to the destination does tend to thin out the chavs, and indeed most Brits, very effectively!!
