I know you've been to Sicily, but what about mainland Italy?
We love both north and south (and the bit in the middle!) and it's such a refreshing change to be able to sit by a beautiful lake or in the centre of a town and have dinner and drinks late into the night without being disturbed by loud-mouthed British yobs.
Food is wonderful too, and the scenery/history/beauty are to die for!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
i went to China last year,
there were no chavs, in fact i didnt see an english person for 2 weeks!Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

Moscow sounds interesting- although I have heard you need some sort of visa?...
Although I am open minded in terms of where I go, my other half would prefer to go somewhere warm (shouldve put this in my thread! oops!).
sturll- I think you are probably spot on there mate! :rotfl:
You needa visa for Moscow IIRC it's about £80 each.
How about Sardinia? Will be warm and there are nice beaches etc. I haven't been for a while though so not sure if it has become touristy.
I think Easy Jet and Ryanair  go there
Anywhere in the USA except Orlando0 -

Thanks nw_man,
It makes me feel like I am not the only one who feels the way I do! I find it hard sometimes where I feel I have to justify myself to people all the time who look at me like I'm some sort of alien when I tell them I would rather chew off my own hand then do an all-inclusive holiday in a spanish resort full of football hooligans and screaming kids! Im not saying everyone else should hate them too but I prefer to eat good food, lovely surroundings, culture and so travelling outside of my hotel everyday to discover the country I am visiting without cringeing at the amount of beer-sponsorship and 24hr English Cafe's advertised everywhere!
The only prob I now find is the chavved-up holidays are reasonably priced and everywhere else costs a bloody fortune! Argh!
Someone at lunch suggested Morocco might be a good place for what I want without breaking the bank- can anyone shed some light on this destination?.......
Thanks!:j :jTotally and utterly debt free as of 27/05/09!!!:j :j0 -
If you're going to Russia, go to St. Petersburg, not Moscow...St. Petersburg is a lot more laid back, attractive, etc, plus has lovely things like the Winter Palace, which you can visit...from memory you do need a visa, but I can't see this being too difficult to obtain...beautiful country, lovely people and would love to go back again myself
.
Other than that...Gambia is a nice sunny place for a holiday, but you'd have to get away from the coast and go inland a bit to get away from the tourists...still, well worth it as the people are lovely, and unlike neighbouring Senegal, English is one of the top languages (it's French in Senegal).
Me, I usually end up going to the good old America...if you look hard enough you can get very decent flights, and once you get away from the big cities it's absolutely lovely...just depends on what you want0 -
Marakesh is warm and free of too many English tourists, although that might change this year, lots of Africa, with the exception of the tourist resorts in Tunisa and The Gambia would meet those requirements, too. Vietnam is lovely, and again, very few British tourists.
If you do end up somewhere full of people you don't want to mix with, English food that you don't want to eat, get a bus out of there and onto another place, cheaper than coming homw.
I've never been to Sardinia or Corsica, but understand both of those are beautiful and fairly unspoiled, and Venice, Florence and Rome are mainly full of Americans, who you might find less irratating.
How about somewhere in Provence/ the South of France?0 -
